I'm currently running into an issue with retroarch 1.22.2 where when my audio device changes (which happens often when my bluetooth headphones connect/disconnect), whatever game I am running slows down to like 1% speed and I lose audio. I found that there was a github issue for this problem and it is shown as solved and merged as of 2 months ago. 1.22.2 is from around 6 months ago so it wouldn't have the fix yet. I tried downloading the nightly version so I could have the fix, but when I check the version number it still says 1.22.2 and the issue is still present. Is it not downloading the nightly version? Should it be a different version number? how do I know if I am even on the nightly version?
#Nightly version download seems to be downloading the stable version?

The version number in retroarch system information window is the same in nightly, the different thing is the git version (and build date is also indicative). Yes its confusing
You should check the git version indeed in Main > Information > System Information
