#N64 USB Controller not Mapping Consistently?

I purchased several USB N64 controllers on Amazon. They seem fine, and once I configure the mapping on Retroarch they work great.

The issue is they don't stay mapped and I constantly have to redo the mapping.

Maybe I plug it in a different USB port, or have a different USB hub. I am always redoing the mapping despite having done it several times in various configurations.

I tried troubleshooting various aspects, config files, ensuring auto-config was enabled, made a new config with the GUID as the name of the file, deleted all other config files, all sorts of stuff I can't all remember off the top of my head now.

At one point I thought I had it good to go! I tried multiple ports, usb hubs, etc. Worked great, other controllers worked right. We were golden.

Then I tried to use the BigBox mode of Launchbox (my front end) on my TV and it reset the mapping to the point that it wouldn't work on the original setup of my PC either and had to remap again.

What's the deal? How can I get it so RetroArch remembers the controller I plug in and defaults to it's mapping?

we use vid/pid and self-reported device name to identify gamepads. As long as that's consistent, it should use the same autoconfig profile all the time. If one doesn't already exist, you should be able to make one from the menu and it will autopopulate those fields to work with your device
