You can create a new file, but it must be called something_l_english.yml (You can replace something with, well, anything), similar to the base game. Flags are in gfx/flags, and must be in either DDS or TGA.

My question is, can I add a daily resource cost to say... a nuclear reactor building or something similar like a synth refinery (would require oil?)?

Basically, create a new file in history/state, fill it in according to the wiki, don't forget to remove these provinces from states that no longer have them.
Also after that, open the nudge with the mod on and validate buildings. Do not forget to move it from user_directory/map to user_directory/mod/your_mod/map

sounds interesting, how much experience do you have creating/modifying focus trees?
that's good, i'd definitely work on what kind of lore/story you want for each region and set that straight before starting any focuses, you wanna make sure it all ties together well
when I made trees, that was my fatal mistake, making a nice tree and then having to either scrap a part of it or rework it all because it didn't fit in well with the narrative or time of the game

you simply just edit the workshop content on the steam workshop itself, you do not need to change anything in the mod files itself for it to appear differently in the workshop

ah apologies, this is the thumbnail, not just adding pictures to it.
for that you have to have a .jpg of your thumbnail in the same folder as the mod and named the exact same as the mod
example: Kaiserreich --> Kaiserreich.jpg
I did that, the picture is named as the mod, it's format is jpg and it's written as "mymodname.jpg" It exists in the mod folder which holds all the mods beside my mod

I'm making a mod. I was editing the oobs for some of the Balkan countries when I restarted the game. When I got back into the game, for some stupid ass reason, the all of the ideologies for Austria are broken. I have scoured the internet and tried everything that I can. I made sure that the ideology percentages add up to 100. I have triple checked the brackets. I have looked for Austria's tag and name everywhere and it's not anywhere that it's not supposed to be at. Has anyone else ran into this problem and if so, do you know a fix?

I'm having a weird bug. The game recognizes the variable I set, and knows what I set it to, but when I try to make an element's X position be the same as that variable, that element just disappears.
The most insulting thing about it? It works for a different element with a different variable literally 3 lines lower. It also works if you replace the variable with 178.

@torn patrol If you mean that you want a war to be a civil war as soon as the game starts, that's impossible. However, you can make a "civil" war, making both sides be separate tags.
Also I'm not sure what you mean by reserve units.

I did everything as described in many sources on the internet. made a .jpg picture, added it to the mod folder, and then in the .mod file, added <picture="mypicturenamehere.jpg" >

How to add the flag of country of origin next to the equipment... When I use functions like: transfer_equipments/transfer_navy/transfer_ship. ships get transferred without the mini flag (look left). meanwhile "incase of ships" I can only add the mini flag when this country is in exile.
I remember in the past before a certain update, the game used to do this automatically i.e. for licensed/captured equipments. Now it doesn't appear anymore.

no this was just a test, I transfered turkish navy to iran to check if the mini flag will be there ... the subs were from france with the same process.
It doesn't work though, since france isn't really in exile as I just used an event to force it through, so just after 1 hour from the event, the subs return back to france.

specifically, how do i make generic focus trees for a specific region, sort of like the warlord focuses in waking the tiger
The easiest way would be to just assign the focus tree to all countries in the region by hand, its like 3 seconds of effort per country. This is also how Vanilla Hoi4 does it for waking the tiger. You just add the relevant country TAGs to the focus tree file right at the top.
I suppose you could also write an event that checks whether a given country has land or its capital in a certain region or state, and then have the event give it the relevant focus tree. But that would constantly use up processing power and take way more effort, so I'd just do it the first way
