Not been playing long but wanted to get some tips on where to improve. Aware pretty much everything will need to be improved, but more specific to help me focus on one or two things. Youtube link if more convenient: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gI4sTi3WQYE

Is Mei the only dps you play? You'll find that each hero has kind of an identity to them and Mei very much prefers a short ranged fight where she can zone off isolated enemies and brawl with them. Her right click has a very slow fire rate and is a projectile so she's at a relative disadvantage holding long sight lines. For that reason she's really good at controlling flanks. Most maps are built to have 3 "lanes" with the middle one being "main." If you post up inside a corridor or a building to one side of main where the fight is happening you can control that space and keep the enemy team from being able to flank your team. It will also provide you much better cover than standing in the middle of main where you're completely exposed.

Hey, thanks. I figured Mei might have an advantage over mid-range heroes because there's no damage fall-off. I think the advice about controlling other lanes is definitely something I need to look into. I haven't really thought much about 'lanes' in OW maps and maybe that's how I need to start thinking about it.

Yea the lanes thing is definitely more apparent on escort maps but controlling flanks exists on every map so that's just how I think of it. The no damage fall off is really great for early poking before the real fight starts just to do some free damage, maybe drain some resources, and build your ult charge, but consider point 1 defense where you posted up on the high ground behind the main archway. By the time the enemy team has gotten to that archway choke Mei's poke value has already gone down compared to her brawl value. Instead if you started behind that blue car and poked down that long lane as they walked up to the choke and then backed up to brawl as they attempted to cross the choke 1) her primary fire slows them so they'll spend more time in the choke, 2) it does cleave damage to multiple enemies at once, and 3) you'll have quick access to that door on the left to control that flank. In general controlling high ground is good but only if your team has someone with an effective range utilizing it, or denying it from an enemy team that wants to use it. In a perfect world you and bastion would have swapped places here and he would utilize the high ground while you controlled the left flank.

Also a different point, but one that will help in literally any scenario is just to hug cover at all times like your life depends on it. Try to think of your health pool like you're playing cod and if you take any damage at all you need to be able to duck behind cover immediately to avoid dying to follow-on damage. If you're ever in the middle of open space and you feel like it would take you a few seconds to get to a safe spot then warning sirens should start going off in your head because you are very exposed. Even if you have ice block available, you want to force people to work as hard as they possibly can to kill you. Make them have to run into your teams space to get to you. Make them expend every resource they have to try to kill you... and then use ice block.

Man, thank you. I never thought of the high ground as space to be controlled tbh, or that controlling it would depend on comp. I feel like there's fundamentals to the game that apply basically to every game regardless of hero that I need to better understnad.

As for cover, I think I'm guilty of tryign to chase kills and values. Which is why I'm chasing Tracer around for like a minute. And really it's not doing me any good. Too much risk, too little reward
