I'm Feint on Tank, currently a Platinum Tank player. In this game I play Dva, Sigma, and Orisa. I play on PC.

I was hoping I could get some critique on my decision making with regards to space specifically during this game.

The fight that I struggled with the most is my first fight on defence. I decide that I would, as Sigma with two long range DPS on my team, hold high ground on top of the petrol station. My thinking is that often when I would hold on low-ground at the corner, this would go well until one of the enemy DPS decide to run up the hill to the high ground, and from there they usually zone out, or drop down and secure kills on, DPS and supports and I find it hard to contest them from the low-ground on characters that are not able to fly up there. To try take back more control, I wanted to hold high ground so I could poke at any enemy DPS contesting from their hill. However, a Cassidy very quickly runs through the tunnel and ends up taking up a ton of space on the side. I notice too late and don't contest it, so he ends up killing Lifeweaver and disrupting our entire team while Doomfist distracts from the front. We totally capitulate and I'm blamed by Ashe in VC for baiting my team and throwing first point. I don't disagree, though I do wonder if a DPS had held high ground on the right instead of them both standing on the petrol station then the Cassidy wouldn't have been able to take that space so easily. But, what can I do here better? Perhaps holding from the right side of the petrol station so I can poke anyone coming through the tunnel? Just go low-ground and play like that?

Other than that, I know I make many mistakes mechanically and tactically and I would love to hear any criticism of my play!

Thank you for your time!

Hey @stiff bough, I’d be happy to VOD review this with you. Would you be available for a Discord call, ~1 hour give or take, either today or tomorrow? DM me if you’re interested in setting something up!

Hey @strange pelican, it’s really generous of you to offer up your time for a dedicated session like that. Unfortunately, I’m preparing for a job interview I have tomorrow morning and straight after I have to prepare for a trip I’m taking that evening! I sadly don’t have the time. I posted this in the hopes of getting responses while I’m unavailable/unable to play. Thank you so much, though.

Ah ok no worries. If for whatever reason you still want a dedicated VOD review after your trip, DM me and I’m sure we can work something out. I won’t be around this weekend but I’ll be fairly open after that.

Hey I’ll make a post that you can read as you go. I’ll do defense 1st since you mentioned it gave you trouble.

You tend to burn shield early before the other team pushes out. You have to trust your team to not get picked super early and wait till the other team turns the corner to use your shield. You rocked this dooms block and everything but he had help from Mei right clicks and Illiari so you had to give up the map control to Doom and Cass. A high hp barrier here would have let u kill doom and then start spamming the cass out.

#

2nd example of using barrier super early.

#

On second point you focused so much on the doom when you could have also shot the people on payload. 1st picture below he used slam and you forced his block he is worthless now. Keep pressuring the cass and moira and don't go back to shooting the Doom!! That damage spam is how you stop them from moving forward and cut off Dooms followup. Look at the 2 pictures to see how much space you give up and how they take advantage of this. Sigma is tricky because people understandably think long range poke team, but he still needs to fight for space.

#

From your post I think this is where your team started complaining. You can keep spamming the doom and moira with ricochets from where you were (on spectate camera), or top of staircase with your Soj. Trying to chase him into the propane building got you killed. You may have thought you were still on Dva, but Sigma is slow and has no way out. Your team staggers too so you don’t even get a 2nd fight.

#

On 3rd with Orisa you need to choose a defensive spot and stop pinsoring yourself between people on the other team. Early game on attack you had Gengi and Echo diving with you, but now you have an Ashe/lifeweaver so just play a corner in their line of sight so they can shine. Their tank was also ability tracking you because 2 lives you used an early gold and he bumrushed you immediately after.

#

Attack was honestly pretty good except for you spent OVER 2 MINUTES OUT OF MECH. I don’t blame you for getting cc chained and demeched here, but just ult and run into the healthpack room below you to remech. You lost so much momentum trying to pistol your way to a new mech.

#

This next fight is even worse because you use dva bomb, then get demeched with your spawn 5 meters behind you. Just change to another tank then back to Dva for a new mech and you will keep your 10% dva bomb ult charge or whatever.

#

3rd point same thing your spawn is 15 meters to your left and you die right before you can remech. Then you swap to Sigma, but the only reason your Dva stopped working is that you wouldn’t die or go to spawn to reset and get a new mech.

I forgot to post this video in the defense section, but here is a video of one of your bad golds that the other team pounces on. Fortify to stop a spear spin slightly bumping you is not a good trade (6 vs 12 second cooldown). If moira fades into you and you still have gold with your +100hp perk she is so dead.
