Hello, im a rather new OW player starting just last November. I put in about 100 hours QP and started jumping into comp. I am mainly working on DPS right now with solider and bastion. Player Name is becantew

When i first placed in DPS last season I was placed in SIlver 2 and quickly dropped to bronze 5. I had crawled up to Bronze 2 last week but ran into a losing streak which brought me back to bronze 5. Here is a recent game on Watchpoint where i felt i performed fairly OK, but we barely lost the match. I watched the vod and identified a few obvious blunders on my part but would like some input from other more experienced players...

I have been working on my aim pretty consistently and noticing some gains there but this is my first attempt at a vod review so hopefully someone can provide some insights that may help me improve.

One thing i have against me is being a newer player who started playing when map pools rotated, each season has brought me "NEW" maps i havent not gotten familiar with, watch point included.

Thanks for any input.

If you ever have any questions even if they seem silly never be afraid to ask them, or if i mention something that isnt clear enough i can always elbaroate ;P

Watchpoint gibby
-very open map with lots of high grounds, long sight lines, and plenty of natural cover throughout the points
-this map is great on attack playing as a sort of divey comp or on defense as poke or dive. Really you can make anything work, but if you play to the map strengths itll be easier on yourself

Bastion
-We start the attack and see theyre running a double flyer with dva. Its always important to know what your job is as part of your comp and you do a great job of pressuring the pharah as she doesnt have the supports with her
-Remember to be mindful of when you use your turret form, as you used it in spawn at :52 and didnt get a lot of use out of it, if youre able to wait until you can definitely see someone you can beam down youll get a lot more damage and valure out of your util
-At 1:02 the pharah is pressuring your backline and you want to deal with her, but you have the perfect oppurtunity to kill the brig and dva standing in this spot, as pharah cant see you and you have lots of natural cover to protect yourself
-From 1;02 to 1:15 its hard to say if you should be focusing the low health pharah or the way out of position brig, and I think defintiely brig shouldve been 1. and 2. would be pharah when you had the chance. Being a dps were always trying to follow target priority list of 1. squishy 2. tank and 3. shield being the most basic version of the list, theres of course lots of nuances here, but youll do the most for your team if youre doing the most damage to supports, or dps out of position.
This next fight is a lot of fun mind games, you start the fight up two killing dva and a little bit later hanzo. However, we then lose two of our own due to a flank. in situations like these its important to note where your team is and to play together. If we played with sig on cart and pressured them to stay on high ground or atleast not give them chance to kill your ana, you mightve won the fight/point.
-really good idea here to try the off angle at 3:19 but using the bomb first gives away your position to the hanzo and the turret was nice, but then also pushing out into them was not. The same play works if you stay in there and force them to come to you through that small choke and beam them down, or if you take the super high ground above you and play the natural covers
-second point is played nice
-really hit our stride from here on out, nice target focus, nice pressure
-as a side note i personally dont find bastion grenade thingy very easy to use or good from a damage stand point. Try and use it more to boost yourself up to high ground, or something that i do for fun i go turret mode and shoot the nade at my feet and go flying sideways as i mow them down as im way harder to hit and sometimes i go over shields during that time.
-were tending to spend a lot of time towards the absolute back of the pack and after taking even the smallest damage we back off, its important to trsut your healers, even if they suck sometimes, to keep you alive as you should (as bastion) be playing in the middle of your group or right behind shield. Youll also find in lower elos your healers will have an easier time healing you if youre always standing in front of them
-this especially in the last minute of the attack lots and lots and lots of time and oppurtunities lost from 7:40 until 8:30. where we spent all of our time in the back doing not a lot of damage for our team. Shooting the ashe isnt really your job, its nice to make her back off but you couldve single handedly killed that zarya at 7:54. at 8:05 zarya is half with no bubbles and reaper is one health with no wraith. If you couldve been there to follow up MAN the game would be done so soon.
okay i think ive said enough

Important notes

  1. your role as dps and who, where, and when you should be shooting
-ie. the squishy, from high ground, non stop baby
  2. being aware of your surroundings and how a fight is currently going
#

-ie playing with sig and ana on cart almost like youre defending the cart from their attack

#
  1. positioning within team and how you can follow up on every push
#

okay have a good day i hope this helps!
