Don't macerate obsidian directly. Turn it into ingots first then macerate for 9x more obsidian dust
Macerating directly only gives 1 dust.
Using an alloy smelter, 1 obsidian block becomes 9 obsidian ingots. Each can then be macerated for 1 obsidian dust.

I love this as an early game tip!
if ur mining ur first obsidian by hand or dont have rock breaker this is great
also other post is quite old so dont get hung up about reposts
I think what detracts from the usefulness of this in lv+ is how cheap rock breaker obsidian is (1 redstone)

sort of ranty/philosophical but people dont wanna post tips-tricks for a few reasons
1.) fear of duplicate post
2.) fear of being wrong
3.) fear of being told "questbook"
list could go on

(i did not know about this 9x obsi dust until your post)

#

In newer versions obsidian now macerates into 9 obsidian dust

But obsidian dust now gives lesser molten obsidian in smeltery (still net gain if you macerate)

The ingots can also be used to repair your obsidian tools. One ingot gives the same repair as one block soo now you get 9x more rapir out of a block

Ingots can also be used as if they were blocks for creating parts at the part builder. It's great for making obsidian large plates for reinforcement modifiers.

Or for making obsidian rods for extra utilities toold
