This way you can halve your demand for milk since it won't induce the negative effects on pickup. You'll still need milk if you want to place it down though.
UPD: I've messed around with this and apparently lost a Super Tank 😭 Can't reproduce the bug though. Use at your own discretion.

one other thing you can do is directly drop it from your backpacks inventory into a hopper facing a block placer
then apply a redstone signal to the block placer
this will let the block placer get and place the tank, and you will never have it in your inventory directly
no more milk needed for tank movement
