I am working on a file server migration project. After the migration, we need to make the file server read-only for the users who currently access it. We are using a service account for the migration. What is the best way to make the folders read-only for these users?

I Need more information. There are many ways to make a file server.

It's like asking the question, 'How many MPG/KMPL does my car get' but never sharing the cars make or model or year...

It was in the main channel but slid to a halt. Not sure when in the timeline this was posted.

The best way is to modify the share permissions. It's effective, easy to implement, and easy to undo.

However, the requestor doesn't have permission to change the share (hosted by DFS) it seems.

Could modify NTFS permissions for the whole tree, but the roll-back is a lot more difficult.
