can someone help me get a close ajfa tone im using a boss katana gen 3 and i have 0 experience with making tones

#

ajfa tone

dark rock
bronze heart
#

closest i got to it is this

#

well not me this is the closest tone that i found

#

idk if it sounds good im tone deaf

dark rock
#

But listening to a tone by itself in mono usually doesn't sound anything like the same tone in the context of a mix

bronze heart
#

i mean its the same track copy pasted

#

panned left n right

#

second is moved a bit

dark rock
bronze heart
#

well anyways

#

so its bad

#

all the tutorials sound worlds apart

bronze heart
#

this is the most downloaded patch

lofty saffron
#

tone chasing like this is always a wild goose chase. replicating the mic and where it was positioned in relation to the speaker cone etc etc

#

you will absolutely go nuts trying to do it and it never really seems to work out

bronze heart
#

in any case i get ur point

#

but which tone is closer

#

the second or first?

lofty saffron
#

but either its too reverb wet or the highs are too high or something

bronze heart
#

these are the settings

vernal tiger
#

Mesa boogie sim

bronze heart
vernal tiger
#

Compression

vernal tiger
bronze heart
#

there is compression pedal tho

vernal tiger
#

Try the crunch one

bronze heart
#

and what distortion pedal do i use

vernal tiger
#

Whatever it comes with

#

And play it actually thru a speaker not headphones

bronze heart
vernal tiger
#

Don’t you have a amp

bronze heart
#

i do but im in a dorm room

#

i could tear down the walls

#

if i unplug it

vernal tiger
#

Ur gonna have to get a cabinet sim

#

Half the tone is the cabinet resonance cause it’s all bass boosted to fuck

#

not the bass itself the guitars just have a shit ton of bass on them

#

The bass is the mids on and a

#

Ajfa

bronze heart
#

by cabinet sim u mean smth that emulates the sound of a mesa boogie right?

#

quite new at this stuff

vernal tiger
#

No the speaker cabinet

#

Honestly

#

Just get a interface

#

And get plugins

bronze heart
#

man i cant lol

vernal tiger
#

however you feel you want to

bronze heart
#

its not that simple

vernal tiger
#

Sell katana

bronze heart
#

i mean i could but what if i wanna practice

#

with ppl

vernal tiger
#

I mean ppl usually have Amos

#

Amps

#

But if you want a good solution that’s silent

bronze heart
vernal tiger
#

You need to use dedicated amp modelers

bronze heart
#

ok well sadly i cant buy an interface i wish i could but

vernal tiger
#

The modeling software on a boss katana is shit if you don’t have the speakers itself

bronze heart
# bronze heart

what about this tone what is it missing what makes it not that good

#

ima just try to fix whatever i can work with

vernal tiger
#

The fact it isn’t going into any kinda speaker

#

You could try to Jerry rig your boss katana to work as a interface

bronze heart
#

why does that matter if im recording it into a daw

vernal tiger
#

Just bypass literally everything and use the usb or whatever into your pc and use that

bronze heart
#

thats literally what im doing

vernal tiger
bronze heart
#

its plugged in my pc

vernal tiger
#

and boss katana doesn’t do that

bronze heart
#

as i said i cant buy a new interface gotta work with what i have

vernal tiger
#

So get a cabinet sim

#

And add it to your chain

bronze heart
#

how

#

im using the tone studio

vernal tiger
#

download it

bronze heart
#

theres no sims

vernal tiger
#

Do you not have like fl studio

#

Or ablation

#

Ableton

#

Or bandlab

#

Or reaper

#

Or literally any daw

bronze heart
#

ah u can do that?

#

😭

vernal tiger
#

Yes

bronze heart
#

ok i have bandlab and reaper

vernal tiger
#

BandLab might have cabinet sims idk

bronze heart
#

doesnt a mesa boogie sim cost money?

vernal tiger
#

it’s all digital my friend

bronze heart
#

yeah it is'

vernal tiger
#

costs as much as an eyepatch and a peg leg

#

wink wink

bronze heart
#

uh huh

#

alright

vernal tiger
#

gmeh is a good site for getting plugins

#

just like

bronze heart
#

ok now im in another rabbit hole

#

so what do i do once i download it

vernal tiger
#

Get a daw

#

Take the input

#

Make the input your boss katana

#

However it does that

#

Then go to wherever you add your effects in post in the saw

#

And then you add the cabinet sim at the end

#

Then it should sound more like it’s going thru a real amp

bronze heart
#

alrighttt

#

what about my amp settings'

bronze heart
#

is the mesa boogie serving as a 2nd amp then?

vernal tiger
#

No don’t do that

#

You just get a generic cabinet sim

#

The katana is amplifying it

#

The cabinet sim makes it sound like it’s going through a microphone and a cabinet

#

Well the other way around

bronze heart
#

so it will be like the tone above jsut sounds like a real amp?

vernal tiger
#

Through a cabinet that is being recorded by a microphone

#

Yeah

bronze heart
#

ok what about the tone that i have right now is it decent then

#

since its ognna be amplified or wtv

vernal tiger
#

Idk you gotta put it thru the cabinet sim to see

bronze heart
#

id need a good tone to be amplified

#

alright il check

#

thank you

vernal tiger
#

then tweak it after that

bronze heart
#

im in yet another rabbit hole now

bronze heart
#

can i use my katana as an interface?

#

whatever ppl use like amplitube i think its called

#

cant i just connect my katana there or wtv and have the same thing as an interface
