Asked AI (who else?) about getting a specific tone, and surprisingly it kinda worked out for my Spider III / Peavey combo. I'm gonna try a next project for the Nolly X plugin to get a similar or better tone for recording some stuff.
Here's the guide I got:
Nolly X – “Saturated Punch” Preset (Based on Your Preferred Tone)
- Noise Gate
Threshold: –45 dB
Range: 100%
Attack/Release: Default
(Just enough to tighten your D♭ tuning without killing sustain.)
- Overdrive (Boost) – TS-style
Drive: 0–5%
Tone: 60%
Level: 85–100%
Model: Green/TS if available
This focuses your mids and keeps the main amp gain sounding tight.
- Amp Section (Use the Modern/High-Gain Amp)
Gain: 72–78%
Bass: 55–60%
Mid: 68–75%
Treble: 60–65%
Presence: 60–63%
Depth (if available): 35–45%
Notes:
Keep mids a bit elevated for punch in the mix.
Presence stays moderate for bite without fizz.
- Cab / IR
Cab: V30 4×12
Mic A: SM57 – Cap edge, ~1" back
Mic B: MD421 – Slightly off center, ~2" back
Blend: 57 at 60%, 421 at 40%
Phase: Normal
This mirrors your preferred IR/mic blend closely.
- Post-EQ
High-pass: 75–85 Hz
Low-pass: 8.5–9.5 kHz
Optional sweetening:
+1–2 dB at 1.2–1.5 kHz for presence in mix
–1 dB at 3.5–4.5 kHz if harshness appears
- Post-Compression
Ratio: 2:1
Attack: Slow
Release: Medium
Threshold: Just kissing 1–3 dB of reduction
Keeps palm mutes tight without squashing the tone.
