I dont know that much about metal tones lol
i have a boss katana 100 mk3 and a yamaha revstar rss20
im also using the boss tone studio
i dont want to use someone elses patch because i want to have a clean tone underneath a distortion pedal so i can turn it on and off easier
thank you

basic signal chain for metal : overdrive as clean boost (no gain, all level) -> high gain amp, mids slightly scooped -> v30 speakers with SM57 mic

river bane
#

so i can go from clean to distorted without having to take up mutliple channels

@river bane are you working with a real pedal here or just switching it on in the katana

river bane
#

those are for sweats

buoyant kayak
#

i agree

#

i would use either the clean or pushed setting to begin
mids around 3 everything else 6-7
should get you clean but tight enough to prepare for the distortion

for the distortion u might play around with gain 7-10, around 6-7 tone and pretty high level

#

theres like 3 metal ones

buoyant kayak
#

what are they called again

#

i use boss librarian so im not sure if theyre the same

river bane
#

hold on my computer is being a bitch

buoyant kayak
#

fair

river bane
#

i use linux so i have to run this wretched program in a vm

buoyant kayak
#

l*nux 'people'

river bane
#

ok i fixed it

#

i just had to reconfigure the mainframe

buoyant kayak
#

im comp sci dont try to jargon me

river bane
#

ehehheheheh

buoyant kayak
#

give me the names

river bane
#

"metal core" "metal ds" METAL ZONE

#

gotta use the metal zone and crank everything on it

buoyant kayak
#

go for metal ds

river bane
#

alr

buoyant kayak
#

metalzone will work too but i think metalds is simpler to work with for me

river bane
#

ok

buoyant kayak
#

metalcore doesnt work as well with scooped mids

river bane
#

missleading name

buoyant kayak
#

see if that gets you anywhere close

#

its great but not for metallica

river bane
#

it sounds like a fire breathing dragon

#

and not in a good way

#

but its probably everything else

buoyant kayak
#

hmm

#

how high is your gain on your clean tone

river bane
#

12 o clock

#

i can send a recording if you want

#

but it has to be through my phone because my daw dosent feel like working today

buoyant kayak
#

thats ok, try lowering the gain to like 3

river bane
#

3 oclock or 3 like 30

buoyant kayak
#

30/100

river bane
#

ok

buoyant kayak
#

are we on pushed or clean amp

river bane
#

clean

buoyant kayak
#

okay we'll try something different then

#

make sure your guitar's tone knobs are all the way up tho

#

we can put the bass at 3-4 and the mids and treble at 6-7

river bane
#

this is what it sounds like rn

buoyant kayak
#

do you want it to clean up some and be more defined?

river bane
#

yes

#

this is what i set the eq to

buoyant kayak
#

lets get rid of the bass and boost the mids

#

that should clean it up a bit more

#

might be what you want

river bane
#

ok

buoyant kayak
#

around 3-4 for the bass and 6-7 for mid

#

6-7 treble probably

river bane
#

you know it actually sounds kinda good how it is

buoyant kayak
#

fantastic

river bane
#

i honestly dont know

#

my daw works now

#

im pretty happy with it

#

the solo is the neck pickup btw

#

thank you for your help

buoyant kayak
#
