I picked up a Boss Katana Artist Gen 3 a few months ago and it's been great. However, I feel like no matter what I do I can't get a solid tone out of it with my pedals. For starters, here's my setup:

PRS Mark Holcomb SVN with Seymour Duncan Alpha/Omega pickups into Boss Katana Artist Gen 3

Pedalboard:
OBNE Fault V2
Boss Metalcore ML-2
Walrus Audio ARP-87
Walrus Audio Slo

I've been trying to replicate or come close to a mixture of Intervals, Haunted Shores, Arch Echo, The Helix Nebula, etc. Just a general all-around metal tone I can use for whatever. I would like to mention I bought my guitar off Reverb so I have no idea if it's set up properly (brought it in for a string change recently but I have no idea if the pickups are at the correct height or if the truss rod is adjusted correctly).

Here's what I've been trying:

Amp:
Clean Channel
Gain - 9 o'clock
Volume - 12 o'clock
Bass - 1 o'clock
Mid - 11 o'clock
Treble - 2 o'clock
Resonance & Presence - 1 o'clock

Boss ML-2:
Level - 12 o'clock
Low - 12 o'clock
High - 1 o'clock
Distortion - 10 o'clock

if you want to do haunted shores/ periphery try to use as little gain as you can get away with, it will make everything more articulate

Gotcha gotcha, I'm surprised you actually think it's good, thank you!

#

I'll keep those in mind :)

It is, I could probably record it with my AT2020 but I'm lazy

fair raft
#

i'd like to hear a direct recorded sample ... properly doubletracked

trim thistle
#

Doubletracked? (I feel like I should know this)

#

Oh right right, doubletracking

fair raft
#

drums and bass use up a lot of headroom in certain parts of the frequency spectrum and you'll have to make space for those

trim thistle
#

why tf is it so quiet

#

hold up

fair raft
#

why do I hear your pick ? is this with the at2020 ?

trim thistle
#

yueah it is, which is making me converned

#

concerned

#

erm

fair raft
#

it's not really quiet

#

it is too boomy though

trim thistle
#

i made sure to turn off my mic channel strip

#

hmm

fair raft
#

but the Katana has direct recording via USB too ... gets you better results way faster

trim thistle
#

oh wtf it does?

fair raft
#

mic placement is an artform in an by itself

#

i don't think my usb cord will reach but lemme try

#

or can i lowkey do this tomorrow cuz i'm cooked right now

#

gotta wake up early for the gym

fair raft
#

alright then ... have a good one

trim thistle
#

you too

trim thistle
#

i lowkey have no idea what i'm doing wrong

#

i'm thinking it's my amp settings after watching a bunch of videos on the pedal, but idk what to set my amp preset to since it's a modeling amp.

#

maybe the fxc return actually

#

nvm that did jack shit

#

what’s weird is my boss ml-2 works fine with the amp, but this one doesn’t. it’s like it’s not getting enough headroom

Maybe the katana just doesn't work well with some pedals
