I've been playing for about 8 months now and I own 2 beginner guitars per say, I own a squier strat and and ibanez gio series RG. While these are great beginner options I am looking to get a more professional grade guitar with a budget of around 1.2k GBP. I am unsure of whether to get a Telecaster of some sort or a PRS SE Custom 24-08. I love the sound of the telecaster but I also love the variety of tones you can create with the PRS SE Custom 24-08. Could i get some opinions? I am really struggling to decide as this will be my gift for my 18th birthday and I don't want to regret my decision. The problem is I like to play music from both sides of the spectrum such as really clean tones and then also death metal kind of tones. I am aware the telecaster is also considered one of if not the most versatile guitar.

if you can, go to a guitar store and try both
ez pz
if you can't just go for the PRS
there are none near me that have the prs sadly
it doesnt need to be PRS
PRS just feel inoffensive
it's the tele that i want you to actually feel first
what does this mean?
it means im not worried about whether or not you will like how they feel in your lap
they just feel like regular normal shmegular guitars
but most telecasters don't have comfort carves either at the stomach, arm, or both
which some people find uncomfortable
ohhh i see
but you also said "death metal kind of tones"
so unless you're fine with the humming noise of single coils
then PRS has a clear lean here
i also have an ibanez which i would mainly play death metal tones on
but the pickups arent amazing
and the fact the PRS has 24 frets
whatever the case
just play a tele in person and decide
the PRS really does have my eye its just i feel like i will be missing out on the tele tone, a lot of the music i listen to is recorded with telecasters and im not sure whether I will regret getting the prs
i have played a tele in my school music room but it didnt feel great in my lap, it also wasnt very well setup
the action was really high
it just felt bulky
so disregard that
thats what i meant
when i said there were no comfort carves
yeah, is it the same standing?
i only played sitting down
or does it not matter when standing
you dont feel it as much standing
but the arm will still feel bulky
as it doesnt have the curved contour that you're use to
ahhh i see so then the prs is probably a clear winner here then
i can always just get a squier affinity down the line after i get the prs
I also hear its not worth spending a big lump of money on a telecaster
no they were comparing it to guitars with like PRS brand name and others of the sort
they dont offer much more as you go higher in the prices apparently
not sure how true that is
isnt that the case with every other guitar as well
"offers more" in terms of what?
because build quality keeps going up to like 2000 ish
then flattens out faster
that applies to every guitar, including teles
i'm not even sure im just easily swayed once i listen to too many opinions from videos and then i get like this where i'm uncertain of what i want
if you hear opinions like taht
and you dont actually hear a reason
then stop listening
again, sounds like a shit opinion, because there's nothing inherently less or more about a tele compared to other guitars
the same rules that apply to them apply to teles
I also think teles look quite boring, I Want to be able to look at the guitar and pick it up and just play something cool
i've seen some with a mother of pearl pick guard they look nice but thats about as much as i have seen
