#cheap amp for metal

What is 'cheap' ? The amp that is affordable and will get you great versatility and tones is probably going to be something from the katana series
Most other modelling amps just suck for metal / high gain tones
Honestly I don’t like the katana for high gain the fender gtx was 👌👌
fender gtx or l6 catalyst
katana below l6 cata for high gain
Tbf...almost no combo amp, digital or otherwise, is good for metal
?
you know like there are 5150 combos thats literally a 5150 head with a celestion right...
You missed the 'almost' part
The 6505 combo also works when using a different speaker
there are much more amps like that
mesa boogie and engl for two makes a lot of combo amps
But the definitely don't fall into the 'cheap' category
valid under context, even tho it wasnt mentioned here.
even then you have some good modeler stuff like how the l6 cata is just helix native (the plugin known for being good at metal) in combo format (with less amp sims)
My gripe with these kinda combos is usually the speaker though
@copper sequoiamax budget
I am looking on spending around 300 to 400
I'm torn, between something reliable like a katana 50 and possibly a distorsion pedal later, and it covers many grounds, or watch video comparisons including models like blackstar etc...
if I wanted the sound in the room I would buy a metal head I like, from the PRS MT15 to whatever and a little cab
do you want to use it as an interface ? do you wanna play with headphones ?
@copper sequoia Do you play mainly in your house, or do you have gigs as well?
i play in a garage with friends but i believe that within a year or so we will be doing some small gigs
The most friendly option is the Katana within this price range.
I would also scour your local marketplace for any deals that you can find thag will scratch the itch at a reasonable cost.
i think i will get a katana but i dont know which one
the 50 is cheap but i cant use a foot switch
the 100 is good but it weighs 15 kg and with the bluetooth adaptor it will cost me around 500
i might get the ex but for 50$ more it might be worth it to go for the 100
Why can't you use a foot switch with the 50 ?
from the reviews i read it says that its not compatible
It is ...the MK2 at least
or ist it just not compatible with the boss one ?
ok i am just dumb the 50 is not compatible with the big boss fotswitches not normal ones
ty ill prob get the 50
why?!?!?
not wrong modeler combos usually have special speakers designed to be the most versatile shit
because they need the amp to sound good for any genre
so theyre not the best for specific genres with specific needs
what kind of high needs
varies across genres but for metal as an example the harmonic complexity and natural compression
compare a modeler combo default speaker with a v30 youll see the modeler speaker has much less tone shaping
which honestly is a kinda dumb idea imo they should just put frfrs in modeler combos and have users load their irs
Because they usually suck and are not always replaceable... And the speaker influences your tone the most
Like the 6505 combos that came with the Sheffield speakers
