hi saw someone offering it for quite low and want to know if it's garbage or playable for this price

pretty sure it's a Crate Electra P Style 4 String Bass Guitar

and also I'm a complete beginner and this would be my first guitar any thoughts? Id probably have to get an amp too right

Well I don’t play bass but yes you would need an amp. Do you want to play electric or bass guitar? Or acoustic guitar. Acoustic is much cheaper and simpler plus I could recommend a great acoustic guitar for $200 brand new

i prefer an electric but my parents are not fans of getting a guitar above 50 dollars and i understand that's a very low bar especially for guitars so im willing to just take whatever I can get my hands on to learn

A guitar under 50 dollars is almost always going to be trash unless someone is being generous with their sale price. I’m just being honest. If the bar was raised to $100 then you could work with that a little. I would say if you are very motivated to learn guitar and if getting the bass (and being consistent practicing) would show your parents you are committed and that would lead them to get you a semi-decent guitar then I would say do it. I started with bass as well. Then I moved to electric.
