#What's the appeal to play bass vs guitar
66 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
some people like the sound or the songs they can play with it
why play guitar over bass?
🍔
Yes a guitar tuned to bass won’t sound like bass
I mean you haven’t given a “good” answer as to why guitar
Because that’s just your reasoning
“More options” what’s that
Also you said tones twice just reworded
And you have plenty creativity on bass
Look at les claypool
and all that may not be appealing if the sound of a guitar and the role itself isnt as fun to someone as a bass
nobodys being aggressive tho?
😡😡😡😡
its just that ur reasonings just arent good
Yeah it’s not lol
bass is a different instrument entirely, the vibes different, roles different, play styles different
ur looking at it thru the lens of a guitar player
its like tryna reason why everyone should play guitar instead of sax
sax has less sounds
less options
less play styes
yet people love it
yeah, but bass is an entirely different instrument
Ok so guitar or violin
or even just classical guitar vs electric
Or bass vs bass
bass has its own thing going on that u cant achieve with guitar, and that “thing” can be a draw for a lot of people
its not apples to apples
You can that is an actual thing
irrelevant to conversation but yes, that’s what pizzicato is
you think thats not what ur asking cus again ur putting guitar and bass on the same field like ur comparing a guitar to another guitar
bass is its own instrument
thats what u have to realize
Yes (I used to play viola same thing just a 5th lower)
the sound and groove
Same appeal to play guitar it’s what they like the sound of
i see a lot of people online who dont even play an instrument
its similar to how you think guitar sounds cooler
some people see bass slap funk shit and think its awesome
Flea from RHCP did it for a lot people
Primus
etc
you can play the same note as this on guitar
but it really lacks that groove
bass just does this shit better
its why bassists and drummers are kinda tapped in to each other like that in a band
theyre responsible for how the song flows and grooves, that aspect about is super appealing to some people
i would pick up bass myself too if i didnt alraedy spend so much money in guitar
oh yeah btw
there are more songs in the world where you can play bass over
thats also another thing
a lot of songs already got the "main instrument" whether its piano or voices or some shit covered
you can't stuff guitar into every single song you come across
but bass? easily, just cus of its inherent role as an instrument

because guitar cant do this, because the method of playing is preferred by some.
When i went to music school, 28 guitarists enrolled that semester,
4 bassists,
there were songs the guitarists were impressed by that we had to play, because it would have been hard to play on guitar,
between geometry, sound, feel, technique,
the third video i pasted is the flecktones, a famous bassist plays here who you may not know,
as well as a famous banjo player bela fleck, who for this song uses a solid body electric banjo with an envelope filter
yes
he plays electric solid body banjo, they exist, they sound great,
then we have music theory
for electric instruments off the top of my head:
lowest to highest:
bass, baritone(yes), guitar, then banjo in the upper register
why does this matter?
imagine if a whole band played in the same octave
Ew
disgusting
remember all instruments are a life long journey,
if you want to play guitar, go ahead, we could use more bassists though,
there is no right answer, guitar, bass, clarinet,
what matters is the experience youve made with your choice, the time you put in grows your bond.
