I've played guitar enough now that I'm ready to invest in more equipment I'm looking at max 600 on a good Les Paul
I want a decent amp and some pedals for around 600 as well

600 in total or 600 for guitar 600 for amp and pedal (1200 total)

personally for the amp i would go with a spark, either the spark mini ($230) or spark 2 (300) (the origianl spark is worse than the mini in some cases) also the reason those amps are good is that they have a bunch of built in effects

for the guitar id would get ephiphone Les Paul Studio E1 - Ebony or a Epiphone Les Paul 100 E1 - Ebony the power players seris and Slash AFD Les Paul Special-II Guitar - Appetite Amber are also a good choice but if you want or more "metal" but still les paul shape I would go for a Jackson Monarkh or an ESP LTD ec seiris
