Ive also wondered, if you can do everything you can on a 6 string on an 8 string, Howcome people use exclusively 6 stringed guitars for songs that don’t need the bottom two?

are you new to guitar or have you been playing for a bit?

About a year ish

Not my first electric

ah ok, so you have some time in then. yea go for it, 8 strings are dope

#

as to why people use 6 strings still, not everyone does, its not a rule or anything

#

sometimes people just may prefer it, or find a 6 string easier as the lower strings arent there to play around for 6 string exclusive songs

Right

#

Yeah, drop D just isn’t doing it for me lol

#

i tune my 6s down to drop A

#

XD

#

just get some thicker strings and you can get there, you just loose the high string in that low tuning which for heavy music really isnt a big problem lol

#

i use 11-70 gauge when i do this

I’ve heard that fanned frets make playing the lower end of the fretboard harder, is that true?

i can speak to it personally. never had the privilege of playing a fan fret. i have heard people say that its "different" and you have to get use to it. but as far as i recall., most say that its not a problem when play it a bit

I see

Alternate version of that guitar, but like 200cad more expensive

#

Is it that big a difference?

its a "better" wood on this one. less soft. better neck joint, at least in terms of comfort

#

i mean in theory its a bit better of an instrument. but that doesnt always necessarily translate

I have a fanned fret 8 string, also headless. It can definitely make some things a bit 'harder' in a way, the amount you sometimes have to tilt your hand back is a bit weird, and it can make some stuff maybe a bit hard but other than that I find the fanned frets feel way more comfortable everywhere else
