#Cheap Valve Amp
81 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
why the need for +50W?
i've a 50 W mesa which is so loud, its unusable
I also have A VOX AC 30, a peavey classic 30 and a Dr Z carmen ghia (18W)
Ive gigged all of them, the Dr Z is by far the easiest 18W to play and to crank
General use and sometimes I play in my School and there’s No way i could connect to speakers and etc
I was thinking od the boss katana 50 or even 100
Or a DSL40CR
Katana is not a valve amp
I know but you can make it Sound like one
no, you cant
I would look into a used Peavey ValveKing. 250 or so.
Yeah you can make any amp sound like a valve amp. The difference is so minute that its been done since the Line6 spider
I'm sorry, I absolutely disagree, well my ears do any how 😉 . the newer modellers like quad and Axe FX come pretty damn close(I own a quad and have had the Axe), but a line 6 spider or a boss katana don't. But, hey all our ears work different and if you think they sound the same, great
Yeah i kid tube amps sound slightly better
Then why offer the advice? its obviously not true. Help new players rather than misinform them.
But like Solid state amps still are completely usuable
I have now a blackstar id core 20 v2
And i need something bigger with enough power for the Stage as I’m progressing
I’m thinking of a good for value even used combo or a head with 4x12’s
Need like 40-50W+
At least
Get a joyo
@mint latch what's your budget
You can grab a 88w egnater tweaker head for around 450 to 550
And you can grab a 4x12 for less than that if you look around
The marshall 1960a lead cabs sell for 400 and under used
This is all used prices though just to add
Valve amps are much louder on a volume per watt, Ive a mesa stiletto ace which is a 50W, drowns the drummer out by the time i get to 2 on the master volume, I've a 30W Peavey classic again, never more than 1/4-1/3 power, finally 18W Dr Z which i can get to halfwayish
Marshall DSL40cr
30-watt tube combo amplifier
ok, sure, solid state sounds like a tube amp
In a mix, most people could be fooled
ok
Sorry that i hurt your feelings
No, not at all, I'm agreeing with you, i'm now questioning myself on the £1800 Dr. Z head I recently bought, when in actual fact, I should have just got a solid state peavey for £150
Yes a cheap solid state is the same as an expensive tube amp. That is what i meant
glad we're on the same page
Ok boomer
boomer?
i think i'm missing the cultural reference
Have a good day
I wish i could now, could have been £1650 better off
I said ok, boomer
Do you think hand wiring has better tone?
I find that a mix of hand wiring and machine wiring has a nice vintage tone
hmmm tbh, I dunno
the only hand wired one i have is the Dr Z,
You could have saved money by not paying out the ass for boutique lol
the mesa sounds good
but, when you get to a certain age, you dont mind, as long as its something you want
i mean, when i was 20,
1800 was a lot, now i'm nearer 50 its not so much
f you want something cheap, the micro dark is hybrid with the tube pre-amp and it's 20W. doesn't quite meet your 50w and it's not full valve, but they sound decent for the price.
There is also the joyo 20w hybrids. They have 2 channels. XL series has footswitch too
I had a dual terror for a while and it was a riot
single channel is the thing i don't like about the dark terror
i think a marshall dsl20 would be a great buy
Yea it's not perfect, but for the price point (and a few pedals) it'd be a nice setup. I've got the terror stamp myself and it sounds pretty good.
Tweakers are nice.
yeah the 88 is my favourite
I am looking at a 40 with a new transformer. I do not need it, but looking hard.
the kt88 tubes in the 88 make it so much heavier tone wise
40s are nice but the 88s are leagues better to my ears
but im a high gain guy
yeah I like gain too, but no need for the 88. Hell I really dont need the 40.
but I like cleans as well. Used to like metal, but that was long ago.
i have a Peavey for gain.
the 88 sounds better than any peavey ive heard
A play through/demo of the Lead channel on the Egnater Tweaker 88.
A pair of KT88 power tubes give this amp a big authoritative voice.
The guitar used is a Kiesel Vader V6 loaded with Kiesel Lithium pickups.
The cabinet is a Randall Lynchbox 4x12 loaded with Celestion Lynchbacks.
they are nice. I will stick with my JSX. It works for me.
I have not seen that clip of an Egnater.
what do you think of it?
sounds good.
