just gave it a try and after re-binning and moving to app data i can start the game. some graphics settings can't be changed in game without hanging (vsync, buffering) but changing them on the log in screen works.
remember credentials only works partially, have to enter password manually every time but thats whatever.
with all setting at minimum i get a whopping 50fps on the beach with no enemies present and 0 spell effects so playability is questionable.
this is on m2 pro with 32gb memory, osx up to date.
In the end which option gives better performance: standalone mac client or emulation trough wine, kegworks, etc.?
Mac standalone is capped at 60FPS. You will never get higher, if you get that. The Windows client will go above that using Crossover, Kegworks or portingkit. Latency with any (mac or windows) depends on ISP and instance on server. That may or may not be different between the 2.
60fps cap isnt relevant when the empty beach without anything moveing on the screen can't get above 50.
60fps would be fine if it could make that in big fights but i doubt the more stressful scenarios are going to have the same perf as the empty beach
You’ll be lucky to get 30FPS in large fights
Oddly though, 30FPS seems to be ok under the native client, at least for my build.

Just follow the wiki guide, which is the first pinned message. If you are trying to install the Mac standalone you need to download the Mac client for the GGG official site. You can't use Steam credentials for either the wiki setups or the Mac standalone. Steam is borked anyway.
You will not get good performance in POE/POE2 with a Macbook Air. They don't have the ventilation, the GPU or the memory to run these GPU intensive games. You might get it to run using the lowest settings for graphics.

Hi, i cannot start POE app from steam, when i open it from applications it gaves this error: POE can not open because its damaged, you need to put it in thrash bag or something

If Steam gives the same error message then potentially the same workaround as the standalone version might apply. See the 3rd pinned message. Substitute the Steam folder paths for the ones in the step by step. Personally I would ditch the Mac based clients altogether. Steam version doesn't even have multithreading anymore.
I ran a comparison between the Mac standalone and the Windows based version using Kegworks. It was night and day better running via Kegworks.
Mac standalone ran at 30FPS - if I was lucky. Windows version via Kegworks was 70FPS in T16 corrupted maps (not juiced but good enough for what I do). To each their own, but if you want to run decently then follow the wiki guide, which is the first pinned message.

On a side note - for those who post in the official GGG forum, images are useful to include, but it isn't all that clear how to do so.
To include an screenshot or othr image in a post you can use a free service such as imgur. You do not need an account (though they are free and you can make albums or pics private that way). Note that the images are public (unless you post private in your account). So take care what you screenshot - no background or any personal information. Steps are
- Take screenshot (either via Mac key combination, which I am too lazy to look up at the moment)
- Go to imgur.com. sELECT "New post" in the top LH corner.
- Drag the picture (one at a time if multiple) to the window that appears
- Hover above the picture. A "Copy link" and a 3 dot button should appear. Select the 3 dot button
- Select "Get share links"
- Select BBCode "Copy Link" option
- Paste this link into the GGG forum post
- If you have multiplr pics to upload select the add button at the bottom of the pic in imgur. Then select the 3 dot button and get the link again and post it in the forum post. Repeat till done.
Add notes either above or below the image posted on the forum. Then hit submit once done.

I can currently log in to the game on Standalone Mac.
The patcher was being more recalcitrant than usual as the .app had been downloaded to some temporary directory and seemed to require manual moving to ~Library/Application Support/Path of Exile rather than using the Trash context menu to restore.
I can also reproduce the delve bug on my own M1.

On my Standard toon, Delve is hosed on PC Standalone as well.
@lilac trail I can make it unwedge on Standard PC by searching for "depth:1" to find valid nodes, but not on Mac. Give it a try.
I did get the usual "This file is damaged ..." but the workaround worked as normal for me

The app ended up in /private/var/folders/h3/720shkk13mb5jwqjqp708s4r0000gn/T for me and restoring it to that location with Recycler didn't seem to advance me through the process. The thing that let it work for me was intentionally dragging it from the Bin into ~/Library/Application Support/Path of Exile/.
How weird. How do I do the Delve search ?
There's a text filter at the bottom. You type the search term in and hit Enter.
Normally it highlights nodes that match the term, but the depth:N ones also snap your delve chart to nodes at that given depth.

In some way, your client is not recognised as a current one. Not quite sure where to go from here, you may have to reinstall.
If you do, you can copy your Content.ggpk out of the directory and cancel out to put it back in again to skip the big data download once you get going on the re-patching.
I uninstalled PoE and reinstalled and replaced the content.ggpk file but to no avail still facing the same thing. Anyways thanks for the help, i will do a full reinstall and will let you know.

You should look at the first pinned message and ditch Mac client.
You do not have all the hassles of either Mac client.
At 16GB you should be able to run it. Probably use default graphics options or lower.

Unlikely it removed everything. There is a pinned message on how to remove the app completely. I would perform removal that way.

Yes. A lot of activities, prior to game and in-game are in Client.txt. That file is in /Users/username/Library/Caches/com.GGG.PathOfExile/Logs.
I would not post the whole log. It can be big. I would delete it (or copy it if you want to keep it. Some 3rd party apps use it to track maps completed for example).
Then try to start up and login again. This file may have the version number in it - I have not looked in it for a long long time.
Look for error messages. Those are what you could post.
When you say you cleared Cache - what did you clear and where from ?

Hello everyone, i want to play poe 1 on steam but it doesnt open after i press "play", so i tried to download the game from official website, but it says that the file is damaged and cannot be opened. There is a workaround for the "File is damaged ...." See the pinned messages -3rd one down I think. Also note: you cannot use your Steam login to play the standalone alone Mac version. Steps to enable your standalone login credentials are on the wiki page (which is the first pinned message)

You just run the game as normal. It kicks off the update. Then you would follow the guide.
The game will be in Applications. You can drag that icon to the dock as a shortcut.

Show the message that comes up. It sounds like you have the same issue as others have reported
You're going to need to report this to GGG - forum post. You could email support but they don't do technical support and will ask you to create a post anyway. There is no way around this I'm aware of and it's a GGG backend issue.
If you want to play POE/POE2 I would recommend you use the Windows client as per the first pinned message in this channel. It has a link to a wiki that outlines options and step-by-step guide. 2 options are free, one you need to pay for. Note: In POE2 there are only 2 options. Also - the Windows method in the wiki is the ONLY method by which you, as a Mac user, can play POE2 since there is no native client.
Can you try this set of instructions with the Mac client

Go to /Users/username/Library/Application Support/Path of Exile/ and delete the file Path of Exile.app if it exists

Run Path of Exile.app from your /Applications folder

It will say you need to move the Path of Exile.app file to the trash - click OK or confirm or whatever does that

Look in /Users/username/Library/Application Support/Path of Exile/ for the update.dat file (note - if the Path of Exile.app file is still here, the update.dat file probably won't be... move that .app file to the trash and run the main Path of Exile.app from the /Applications folder again)

Sure - there is one other thing I'd like you to do before doing that. I will start a separate thread. There is a way to capture the activity at startup to some details. Sahould capture those first before doing anything. It will not fix the issue but it may point to why something is happening (and then pass to GGG to fix).

Idk but I only needed to do 1) to 3) steps also instead of opening PoE app regularly I rightclicked then pressed show package contents, navigated to MacOs folder, ran Poe unix executible and it updated

Just so I understand - you were getting the Patch update issue after trying to login yes ? Steps 1-3 were the only one's necessary, together with disabling SIP on Mac and then running the Path of Exile via the Unix executable, which then updated POE and you were able to login without getting the "Needs an Update ..." message ?
Also - what steps did you go through to disable SIP on your Mac ?

If one of the others can try the full set of steps that would be good. What I 'd like to see is the terminal output for when the issue occurs. I believe it is looking at an incorrect IP address for updates, which is why the update is failing.
A non-routable IP is being used. That might be some sort of DNS issue. To test that, someone could try the update process via a Hotspot or flush their DNS and see if the update runs using the correct update server IP

i tried mgtk and parallels, parallels (cracked) was the only way i could even get to run. nvidia geforce now will continue to get my money running at 1440 120 ez
It will be garbage performance on any VM software. If you have a system with 16GB of memory than run it via one of the options outlined on the wiki.
Use keg works it runs mint as. I tried GeForce now and it works too but a minor thing is no custom filter sounds, and no overlay (and extra cost for no reason)

I threw the dmg into the bin, same for the app in /Applications, redownloaded and still the same 😦
well i did a couple things since i had the same issue:
- I disabled my SIP (system integrity protection)
- renamed update.dat file to update.zip in PoE folder, extracted it and replaced the PoE app
I can't get a newer installer than June 18th from the site so uh
I havent encountered this problem today, I did encounter it last patch before
But I downloaded new dmg, replaced it in applications then instead of opening it I did this: right click on PoE app -> show package contets -> locate MacOS folder -> run poe unix executable in that folder

hmm, I dont remember how but I think there is a method to force update.dat folder to appear
I think I reinstalled the whole poe for it to appear, but would suggest looking for the other method for it to appear

On a side note - is there a reason you don’t use the Windows client as per the wiki guide ? It does not have any of the issues and better FPS than the Mac client.
Oh - and you can’t play Delve with the Mac client.
are other peep's 3.26 working fine with crossover? My crossover is 25.0.1 and it's not working after patching to mercenaries :(

I described a little here, but after updating to 3.26 it crashes on launch.

I tried that too... But it doesn't seem to help. I've also made sure the renderer is set to DirectX12 in the config ini file.
Do you have renderer_type or device_type in the config.ini file ?
GGG changed it to device_type=
in this patch. It might not do anything but I would add that line if it is not there.
You can also run the packcheck on the files that GGG provide.
In case something has been corrupted
If none of that works I would do an install using Kegworks instead. If that works than it’s a Crossover issue and you’ll need to either log a support case or reinstall Crossover (or both)

Might be that. I made sure renderer_type is DirectX12, Ctrl+F'ed Vulkan and deleted all lines that contained it. Might've deleted device_type=Vulkan and it defaulted to Vulkan. I'm in the process of deleting and re-creating the entire bottle, lets see!

It is on the wiki as far as I know. device_type=DirectX12 is in the CO section. If you are on an Intel system it would be Vulkan.

If anyone is disabling SIP they shouldn’t be asking for support anywhere period as there’s almost no reason to fully disable SIP on modern versions of macOS

Better M series chip & more ram are the roadblocks

For those of you that are encountering the message "(null): “Path of Exile” couldn’t be copied to “Path of Exile” because an item with the same name already exists." There is a workaround that does NOT involve deleting the entire folder and reinstalling the whole game. This is for the standalone version. NOT the Steam version. The TLDR is to do the following
Delete this file "/Users/username/Library/Application Support/Path of Exile/Path of Exile.app"
Delete this file "/Users/username/Library/Application Support/Path of Exile/Path of Exile.app!.app"
Then click on the POE app icon in your system tray. The app will now update incrementley and you don't have to reinstall and download the entire 25+GB. I wouldn't hold my breath on GGG coming up with a fix so you'll have to do this every time a patch comes out
Note: In Finder the Library folder is hidden (it is not hidden if you open a terminal window). To unhide it hold the command+shift+. key. This will show hidden directories. You can then navigate to the folder and perform the actions described. To avoid doing this every time you can also add it to your favourites links on the LHS of finder.

is there a way to toggle windowed mode vs fullscreen on mac? once I maximise the game the bar dissapears and I cant toggle back without reopeneing (which defaults to windowed mode)
believe me it could run perfectly on 40-60fps like 3-4 leagues ago I was even able to do giga juiced maps with abyss wildwood strat, ggg just doesnt care about optimization in general :/

Details - you have not been specific - how do we know which Steam client you are using - Mac or Windows. What exactly is the issue. No-one can guess those, so it is not possible to suggest a solution.

You cannot run POE2 via the Mac Steam client
There is no Mac client for POE2. That is why everyone on a Mac is running it via one of the options outlined in the wiki, which is the first pinned message in this channel. It is the mac-os channel but given the poor state of the Mac clients - both standalone and Steam, most have elected to run the games via the workaround methods or a cloud gaming platform if their system only has 8GB ram.
PoE2's mac Steam client is empty since 0.1 launch, there's unfortunately nothing to run there yet.
For 2 you currently need to run the mac Standalone or one of the PC or GFN alternatives.

The PoE1 mac Steam client reportedly has some trouble launching, don't personally know what's up with it and if there's any workarounds found.

Okay, i fixed the issue by signing it but it only could open once over Steam app, and login screen asked for a client update. After i close the game, i couldnt open it over steam
I think i have to buy 6000$ gaming server to play any game, its not easy to find a game that is compatible to ps5controller in macos
Standalone poe works perfect, no issues. I have to run poe over steam because i want to link my ps5controller to poe. Did anyone ever tried this with latest updates?
If you have any findings like the above that aren't documented yet, it might help adding them to a bug report on the forums.
My job role is quite far from these kinds of things.
Go download Crossover. You get a 14 day trial. The install POE or POE2 via the wiki guide. If it works with the controller you buy Crossover for $74 less a 20% discount coupon. You can also try Kegworks, which is free. Both of them have discord channels and Crossover has an official support link as well so if it doesn’t work you contact them. Way cheaper than a Windows PC.
Yeah i know there are other ports that i can map my controller buttons to game. But steam is already doing the job for free. I dont want to pay anything extra for that. I would buy poe2 if i want to spend money to play poe :D. POE1 is the only broken game for ps5controller. I just tried that other games are compatible for playing with controller. I believe POE dev team should fix the code signing issue. It has different signature than standalone app in macos. When i map/replace working signature with steam poe client it asks for an update since the original file is changed :S
Did you miss the part about Kegworks being free. Heck, even Crossover is free for 14 days. Try them.
As for GGG fixing things. They have not fixed a reported issue on Mac for over 2 years. The only thing they fix is anything that bricks players logging in.
You could put a ticket in via the official portal but you will not get a response and POE2 will be a fully released game by the time they get around to even thinking about looking at non-critical issues. It is what it is.
As for the issue with the Mac client asking you to apply an update, there is a workaround for that. It isn’t pinned but should be easy enough to find. I posted it about a week or 2 ago.

Check Production_config.ini (I think it’s called that).
GGG changed a line in it - renderer_type=DirectX12 no longer applies.
If it is still there change the line to device_type=DirectX12
That’s is usually the reason it opens and closes so quickly. I assume you are using the Windows client via one of the methods outlined on the wiki

i have kegworks for my poe2. i initially started with PK for Poe1, and then when we had issues gettin gP2, we decided to use Kegs for that.

GGG quietly uploaded what looks like a new Mac standalone dmg file last week. I just downloaded and installed it. The usual messages of "This File is damaged ...." and the newer one about requiring an update no longer seem to occur.
There was an update released tonight so it was the first test of the client since the upload. It seems to have resolved both those issues. HO isn't a good indication of FPS but I am getting 70FPS, which has never happened with the standalone. This will undoubtedly drop when in juiced maps, but it does appear that the Mac standalone is at least viable again without having to resort to multile workarounds to fix update and login issues.

Same is happening to me. Will be attempting a fresh install via the new installer by wiping the content from the Application Support folder & and redownloading/installing it from the new installer. Hopefully I'll get to play PoE tonight

I'm experiencing the same problem, even tough for smaller patches all I needed to do was to download new installer, run unix executable from the new app and thats it

The mechanism is that the patcher downloads the archive and extracts it, assumedly discarding the file when it's done.
If things break, report them with whatever things you've gleaned from them.
There are 6 posts with multiple pages - it would be nice to know if the issue is being worked on. Not one is acknowledged. Can’t blame peeps for not bothering to post anymore reports. You can setup on an external SSD. All my Kegworks bottles are on a Samsung 2TB T5. Frees up a lot of disk space

Can confirm what Piratika reported - Delve is busted again. Login is fixed but now back to no Delve ....does anyone at GGG actually test this stuff or just throw it out there for giggles ....cause the test is fairly simple and takes around 10 seconds.

I can login via steam now also! and yea, seems like multithreading is enabled by default (it didnt tell that earlier) - but, delve still broken here as well, and game is much slower than on standalone

No crossover has pk and wine kinda merged into crossover. So you just have to run crossover and it will do all the translating for you.
They have a 14 day free trial I think so you can try it out for the games you want to play. Because all games are not supported. They have a compatibility bar where you can search the game you want to play and there will be reports on each update and how well it runs in crossover to see if it is something youd actually use.

It’s broken. This has been mentioned a few times. There is a forum post on GGG site as well. Only the Windows version on a Mac will work
I did a test, on my mac mini m2 pro.
Steam native POE1 runs very choppy. There are also certain effect that dont actually visualize. Like arc lightning almost so faint you could miss the effect entirely if not paying attention.
Also frame rate very choppy and low.
I have a legit crossover (year license) and also installed the game via steam on crossover. It night and day, the one on crossover runs markebly better. Frame rate higher much less stutters and even on low setting the effects visualize like normal.
Note I am on beta (26 latest).
Will a controller work with crossover? I know the native steam POE1 just doesnt see my controllers. I can only test tomorrow as this is my work mac.
Controllers work in CO but I’ve never seen anyone use them without issues
M3 Pro 16GB here, picked up POE recently through the standalone version, not having any issues besides some rare drops to around 30FPS in specific areas.

Kegworks also has a discord channel which I would suggest you join as well. If you haven’t use a WINE app before you will find it open a world of possibilities that did not exist before regarding Windows only games
It isn’t because you are on Tahoe. The native app just doesn’t have the same performance capabilities as the Windows based one. The native app also has other issues the Windows one does not (Delve is still busted on native as far as I know for example). Both take a performance hit when you start juicing but the WINE based one not as much. Unless they fixed it the native Steam based setup has multithreading disabled, so there’s another performance hit.
Hey Bob, currently here on the steps listed under Kegworks on the wiki
- Select Install Software from the options. Select Choose Setup Executable. Select the appropriate PathOfExileInstaller.exe file (where ever you downloaded it to on your system). This will then create the base POE folder and files.
Should I be installing the PathOfExileInstaller.exe for windows?
If so should I uninstall the mac standalone I have or can I leave it be?

On that note I went to the launchpad for step 5 because the only application I had with "Kegworks", was named "Kegworks Winery" and there was no KegworksConfig under Contents.. (expanded folders to check there too)
- Go to /User/<username>/Applications/Kegworks. Select the wrapper previously created. Right click -> Show Package Contents -> Contents -> KegworksConfig -> Open.

Kegworks Winery is the app in /Applications. That isn’t where the wrapper you made lives. The wrapper (or Keg) is under the path described. That is where you find KegworksConfig.

Windows Installer. Leave the Mac client installed unless you don’t have the disk space to keep it.
1 last thing I'm unsure about,
production_Config.ini exists, but when I open it with Text Edit it's completely empty..
- Next check that production_Config.ini exists in /Users/<username>/Documents/My Games/Path of Exile folder and has the field device_type=DirectX12 under the [DISPLAY] section. If the field exists but is not Directx12, edit it to this value.
Wondering if I need to try launching the game first or if I'm fine to just add it in and save

The wall of text can be daunting when first encountered but steps are supposed to mirror what a user needs to do at each step of the way. Someday I might do a video for setups but I’m a bit lazy to do that. There are a lot of people in this channel that can help if someone gets stuck setting things up.
FYI - you can’t run POE and PoB at the same time using Kegworks (or other WINE apps). If you want both running at the same time, set PoB up in portingkit and run POE in Kegworks.
Anyone else run into problems with item filtering on Kegworks? 
At first I thought I was seeing things but then it was clear items I was trying to pick up were disappearing after appearing briefly,
to be clear they were still there, I just had to hover over the physical item on the floor to see them again, just tried on the standalone and it doesn't do this, so it's probably not a filter thing unless it was bugged on the standalone.
You need to set this in the game settings.
Under UI - Gameplay - Always Highlight (I think).
People normally toggle it by accident with the Z key.

The company currently claims the game runs natively, even though it doesn't run on newer systems. However, it doesn't specify which versions it does and doesn't work on during the download process. It doesn't mention this on the POE website, even when attempting to download the client.
Hi All, I am running POE 2 on MBP M1 16 GB ram via kegworks. Are there any workarounds for the lags that occur when there are many mobs on the map? I died in breach twice yesterday while mapping as the entire client almost hangs, and only recovers when I am given the resurrect and checkpoint page.
That’s normal behaviour. The more mobs the less FPS and the greater the lag. About the only thing you can do is lower the graphics settings if you have not already done that - or don’t run breaches - but that would be boring.

It won’t really matter. POR is not well optimised when it comes to heavily juiced maps. Even Windows systems struggle, though not to the same degree. Hardware isn’t the issue. Honestly - you don’t buy a Mac for gaming. While the M series can certainly run many games, it’s not its primary function and it would be a waste of money. If you are looking to play games on a serious basis, a Windows PC is still far ahead for gaming (and likely always will be).

What are your bottle settings in Kegworks. Should be D3DMetal for graphics and Msync for sync option. Engine should be 24.0.7 and wrapper should be 3.17.x I haven’t tested it lately but each time an update comes out it always has the potential to break things.
Just logged in - apart from the 11GB update the game downloaded and updated and ran ok for me.
The mac standalone client updates without an issue (at least for me) but Delve is still broken. They fixed it before, so why does it take so long to fix it again ....🤨

render_type is the old entry for graphics. So if you have renderer_type change it to device_type=DirectX12
The entry in config_ini needs to be renderer_type=DirectX12, not render_type (unless you have that and the above is just a typo)
Also - what is the graphics settings in the bottle - it needs to be D3DMetal

D3DMetal + ESync + NO High Resolution mode works well on external monitors.
Specs - Macbook Pro 14' M4 Max 36 GB. I am still getting into POE2 but will report endgame someday.
After reinstall, it works now.
Remeber after download all install files, DO NOT launch the app, update config file to DirectX12 first.

hey all - i'm switching from mac native client to the kegworks version. I got it running, but tried switching to fullscreen and ended up messing up the production_Config.ini file, and now it won't start. The wiki has a template version of this file, but only for POE2. Does anyone with this same setup have a copy of a working config.ini file I could paste in?
I expected it would create a new config file if it was missing when I restarted the game, but no luck
You can either delete your current file and just start the game or you can use the POE2 config file and change the settings in there you need to.
If you delete the file and start the game it will either start and populate a new file or it will crash, but should make a file you can then use to restart.
Hmm yeah, I tried starting after deleting the file, but it didn't create a new one. When I use the POE2 template, I get the error about using Vulkan (instead of directX12) even if I add the line for device_type to the file (it's not included in the config template)
A bit odd it did not create a new file. Where are you looking for the production_Config.ini file ? The standalone Mac (and probably the Mac Steam client too) config file is in a different location and it will have device_type=Vulkan since a Mac has no idea of DirectX12
That path is /Users/username/Library/Application Support/Path of Exile/Preferences.
The location of the config file for POE when using Kegworks (and other WINE based apps) will be in /Users/username/Documents/My Games/Path of Exile/
In the DISPLAY section that should have device_type=DirectX12 for POE (it is still renderer_type=DirectX12 for POE2 and that lives in a Path of Exile 2 folder)
You can rename the Mac client one, in case it is somehow getting confused. You can also create a blank config file in /Users/username/Documents/My Games/Path of Exile/
and just have the entry
[DISPLAY]
device_type=DirectX12
in it. Start the game. Should be enough to get things going again

To put it bluntly - No. Anything with less than 16GB will suck and given the MB Air has no fan, it would double as an oven/stovetop.
Your best best to play it would be through a cloud service, such as Geforce Now.
You are free to give it a try using one of the 2 options mentioned on the wiki (the link is in pinned messages) to see for yourself what it would be like if you didn’t use GFN.

Has anyone tried playing in a party with friends on another platform (XBOX, PS5, etc)? Does it work? If so, how's the experience?
Thinking of getting my friend into the game, but he only has a Mac and I know how crossover and some other things struggle with allowing multiplayer to function.
Multiplayer where some are on a PC and some are on a Mac is fine. You can use controllers on both though some work better than others via WINE based apps.
I don’t think someone on Xbox or PS can join a multiplayer on another platform, at least in POE but others are probably better able to comment on that. POE 2 might be a different story - I thought cross platform play was being built into it, though it may not be available yet. If no-one responds here then post in the other channels of the Path of Exile discord. Someone might be able to confirm one way or another.

Has anyone tried running poe2 on a base M4 Mac mini with kegworks? I tried and game was unplayable but not sure if it’s a me issue. I also encountered an issue with editing the config file if I put renderer_type=DirectX12 I get a black screen but if I let it default to Vulkan or dx11 it runs but anytime anything happens on the screen the game freezes for 5ish seconds. Any advice would be appreciated or is the base model just not powerful enough?
poe2 runs fine on my m4 macbook pro i'm not sure how different that is to a mac mini
i use auto to open it in crossover but my ingame settings i have the renderer set to directX12
changing to direct 12 ingame gave me massive performance increases as i was getting similar suttering issues as you are describing

Yes. I do not play much these days but I can log in just fine. Graphics setting is renderer_type=DirectX12. The bottle graphics setting is D3DMetal (since it is DirectX12). You don't provide any bottle settings or what your system specs are. I suspect either the bottle settings aren't correct or your system is below the specs needed to run the game properly.

Hi all. My friend tried out PoE2 yesterday on his M3 MacBook Pro, but he was experiencing crazy fps drops while playing with us (like 7-8 fps). We tried a lot of different settings like DirectX12, D3DMetal, etc. Unfortunately, they didn't help much. Of course, we must be missing something for sure. For further context, he downloaded the game via steam in Crossover and opens it through Steam. Anyone have any additional tips/videos/links to help out? It would be highly appreciated. Thanks!
I think he should download standalone mode, and not steam. I've played before with no problems. Today, i can't update. It always says some file is missing or something and stops the patch. sad.

PSA - Kegworks is now called Sikarugir. The reason for the change is mentioned on the Sikarugir discord channel.
While Kegworks app will continue to run, it is recommended that you uninstall Kegworks (this does not delete the bottles in Kegworks) and install the new application. The new application has a new base wrapper and engine. These aren’t backwards compatible so you can’t use them with existing Kegworks bottles.
The wiki page has been updated with the new app name. POE and POE 2 installs are largely unaffected.
To uninstall and then setup the new Sikarugir based bottle go to the Sikarugir discord - a link to which is at the bottom of the wiki page (it should still work). If that link does not work - the link is also on the Sikarugir github page (which is also on the wiki page)
If you run into issue post a support thread on the Sikarugir support channel of the discord.

The wiki does not cover Steam setup. It does mention that Steam runs poorly compared to using the standalone. It's your call but you will have an easier time with the standalone.
If, for whatever reason, the config file is not being read properly, there are 2 things to try, with the standalone.
- Download the template file that is referenced on the wiki
- Do a complete reinstall of the game. Sometimes that sets the ini properly
For whatever reason the M4 series mac seems to have a hard time with installing POE2 🤷♂️ but one of the options above usually gets things up and running
Oh - and don't watch YT videos. Most of them are less than helpful and a lot of the time, just wrong 🙂

Under Step 17 of the Sikarugir setup there is a link to a template file for POE2 (it can also work for POE). It usually is not needed for the other setups so it is not linked outside of the Sikarugir setup. You can try t odownload and use that

It's clearly stated. The first CO setup guide is for POE - it is marked under that section
The second CO setup is marked under POE 2,0 EA setup - which is what POE2 is.
Under the second section it also mentions you have to change the [DISPLAY] entry.

Not from what I have seen. Performance is hard to quantify in real terms. The amount of memory, the CPU/GPU, Internet connection, disk and probably other factors all combine to produce performance results. A system with more cores, more memory, a fast SSD and a high speed internet connection are going to count more than the differences in coding in the WINE based apps. SKG is free. CO has a small cost. It's a good idea to use both anyway. There are some games and applications that will not run on CO but will work with SKG and vice versa. One app will not fit all scenarios.

Well, there is a port and repackage of PoB-PoE1 onto pobfrontend by some third party. It's just not by the same gang and as the article notes, it doesn't have the same release cadence and may be lacking in functionality.
I don't know if any of the Linux or macOS repackages have had the engineering aptitude to support PoB-PoE2's new image formats and drawing capabilities.
Sikarugir = newer Kegworks.
Also - as zao said - there is (or was) a port for PoB. It kinda worked. It is on the GGG forum somewhere. My preference is the Windows version running under a WINE app. The Mac port suffers a lot of issues with truncating, keys not working properly and a few other things. I gave up on it. I'm not sure it is still up to date with current league but honestly it isn't worth it for me. Not sure of there is a PoB2 port for Mac but unless the kinks got ironed out in the Mac port of PoBI can't imagine a port of PoB2 would go well.
Apart from that I rarely play POE and haven't play POE2 since v0.1.0 . I'll come back to it once someone provides evidence you can solve Krillson's 2nd quest or someone finds a fishing rod in POE2 - which ever comes first.

Oh no - you don't get to kill Krillson. You interact with him (he is the rarest NPC there is) and he gives you a quest that no-one has solved in over a decade in POE. He is about as rare as getting a mirror drop. To even get his 2nd quest you need to get a fishing rod. To get a fishing rod you need to wear a Fairgraves Tricorn and kill a unique monster. That's the easy part ... In POE2 a number of people have encountered Krillson but no-one can get any further than that because no-one has found a Farigraves Tricorn, so no-one has a fishing rod. It's all part of a running gag that GGG participated in with the community. After a decade though I think everyone has had enough of it, so Krillson's 2nd quests will never be solved.

The Mac Steam and Mac standalone clients are still broken. Stay away from them.
For the Windows version I would suggest using Sikarugir (formerly known as Kegworks) or Crossover.
That is because these are the only 2 WINE based apps that run both POE & POE2.
You can still use PK for running PoB and PoB2.
Sikarugir is free. Crossover requires a license which needs to be purchased after a 2 week trial.

Some time ago in a video Jonathan said they had a Mac client as a WIP for POE2. No release date for it, so I regard it as click bait. Especially since there was no mention of fixes for the existing clients. A client may be released at some point, likely just before the heat death of the universe.

A reinstall should not be mandatory. What version of POE are you running and what is the config_ini setting for that version. They are not the same for POE and POE2 (which is confusing as ....)

What app are you using to run POE2 - CO or Sikarugir (the old Kegworks) If you are still using Kegworks you should update to the new app. I can only test on Sikarugir but it should not matter which of the 2 apps you use.

Vulkan is default behaviour I believe. So it isn't really reading the config file by the sound of it - or it tries, gives up and falls back to Vulkan as default. That's because the default on an Intel Mac is Vulkan (since there is no DirectX support on those, only Apple Silicon).
2 things to try before the dreaded full re-install.
- 1 make a copy of the existing file and put it somewhere else. Then delete it. Then start the game. It should recreate the file and hopefully that works.
- If that doesn't work then download the template file off the wiki and put it in the correct location (the POE2 folder in My Documents)
If those 2 things don't work then a re-install is needed. I'll install POE2 in CO and see if I get the same issue.
I was able to login via Sikarugir without any issue but oh my god it is dogshit slow. I'm still watching the wheels spin while try to get into my hideout. WTF ....

It is only in the config file and only under the [DISPLAY] section. For whatever reason the game could not read your old file. No idea why since there are no logs files for that action. The template file was a workaround someone found and has kindly posted on a github page. I would keep a copy of it around, in case this happens again when another update comes out. Saves you needing to download it again and the github page might not always be around. You could probably have tried copying the old POE one across and change a few details in that. Might have worked as well. It's all a lot of hassle but at least you are back in the game - which is what counts 🙂
It's weird yes, but it worked... gonna compare where that line is located on template and try with mines, that could be a good solution if anyone wants to save his config.

It shouldn't matter if it is the only line in there. The game is supposed to populate the file when launched, so it would move to a different spot if you built the file from hand.
Using kegworks/sikarugir here on an M3 Pro 16GB, what graphics settings would you guys use or recommend?
I didn't turn anything down in poe1 and played on the native res with retina display which I guess is comparable to 4k? and got a consistent 60 frames and often it went slightly above but was corrected by the adaptive thing, at worst it would have rare drops to 30ish fps on intense maps with a build like flicker strike.
But I'm getting 30 frames on poe2 with basically everything turned all the way down so I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong and worried for content I haven't got through yet being so early in the campaign rn. Is that just how poe2 is with a system like mine?
Your system simply doesn’t have enough ram, 16GB puts you at POE2 minimum requirements when you combine (required ram + gpu required ram)

This could be anything. Run a pack check on game files first. If that is clean restart your system from a cold boot. If it still happens then reinstall POE2.
anyone know how to get more fps when mapping. M4 pro with 24gb ram and it chokes when too much is going on.

For those on MacOS Tahoe - there is currently a bug that will impact the performance of applications - not just games but all applications running on Tahoe. The issue lays in Apple Intelligence.
There is a new apple intelligence feature controlled by "NSAutoFillHeuristicControllerEnabled" which seems to be registering input responders over and over again. This degrades performance of an application over time. For those interested in the details you can go read the thread in this forum https://github.com/ghostty-org/ghostty/discussions/8616
It affects apps that are already CPU intensive. Less affected if GPU intensive. Things like Crossover would be doubly impacted since it is translating and running games that fall into this category. Although GGG has moved a lot of processing to the GPU both games are still pretty CPU and GPU intensive, especially in highly juiced maps.
There is no fix at the moment but there are 2 workarounds.
- Turn Apple Intelligence off completely
OR - in terminal execute the following command
defaults write -g NSAutoFillHeuristicControllerEnabled -bool FALSE
Other OS releases are not affected, just Tahoe. I would imagine even GFN would be somewhat impacted by this issue. Apple is aware of the issue but who knows when they will release a fix.

Having issues with icons. Its just the buffs. So i deleted POE from steam. Then all folders related to poe including the shadercache. Theb re-download it and still same issues. Running macos Sequoia on M4 pro. It was working fine yesterday and today boom this bs. Other games run fine. All my settings are on low.

CO is NOT subscription based. You can buy a single license that you are entitled to use forever. The license is a 1 time cost. You are entitled to updates for free in the first year. For the second year you can buy optional maintenance for 50% of list price. That gets you another year of updates. If you don’t want updates you don’t need to buy updates in the 2nd and subsequent years. The original software will still be validly licensed (but it may no longer work if an OS or launcher updates and breaks it).

This is a completely different model than those bandits over at Parallels.

Crossover is more efficient in games in Parallels. You have less than 3/4 of Age of Empires II: I played it on Parallels and had a performance score of 900, while Crossover had 1300 m4 pro.
Parallels is good for games on dx11 with anticheat. For demanding games like Conan, you can't turn on. Crossover, which partially runs dx12.

You don’t need to uninstall SKG to use CO. In fact it’s useful to have both. Not every game runs in CO or SKG so having both is handy.
If you need to uninstall SKG you just delete it from /Applications. This does NOT remove the bottles, just the app.

That’s a good example of why you don’t use Private APIs as those are undocumented and can break or even be removed.
I could be wrong but I think there is now a fix for this - saw it in another channel earlier in the week. There were 8 beta releases prior to the RC release. It is interesting that it was not noticed before but maybe that is because beta is a moving target. What is broken in one release works in a later one and vice versa. I'm sure more will crawl out of the woodwork as Tahoe is adopted by more users. I'll stick with Sequoia for the foreseeable future. On the plus side more and more apps and games that weren't playable, or borderline before seem to be running now.
Hmm! i am currently playing PoE2 on CO, but I thought I would get POE also on it but I see this message. Three days ago, it was 5 * and said it plays well on it.
Ratings are very fluid. They are also a combination of all the ratings users give the game. If the only users that rate the game say it won’t run and others that have it running via CO don’t rate it then you get a biased rating that is not correct. I have had that before.
It’s more a rule of thumb. If you have it running go put a rating in on the Codeweaver compatibility page for the game. The flip side is - this can happen if GGG released a recent patch that broke things. I haven’t tested on CO for quite a while so it’s possible.

I got around to installing POE in the latest CO. It will indeed NOT run. It will install and upon startup it will crash out with a wine debug error, so it looks like CO - as of 25.1.1 can no longer be used to run POE.
It also fails using SKG. If the game runs for you provide the bottle settings you are using. I assume GGG has made some graphics changes that have broken using WINE based apps to run the game. Not sure which patch did this but it isn't playable at the moment till a fix is made on either CO or SKG (or both).
It's working again now. I got hit with the bug where it somehow does not read the configuration file properly. I had to delete the ini file, restart the game, edit the new file (as it started with Vulkan) so it used DirectX12 and it's all working again now 👍
On a different note - for those of you who still use or want to use the native Mac client - Delve is fixed again. You can now see the Delve map again 👍
On the flip side - the icon display in-game for the Mac client in POE is busted (as reported by others) so fix one thing, break another ....and yes I have cleared the cache. I deleted everything with cache in it's name. Did not fix the issue

Yes it is normal. It is probably not necessary but CO has pre-built bottles and those can be old (the POE one is based on Win7) so there is extra baggage that newer games don’t have.

Did you try a different gateway ?
The issue I had was with POE but in your case it’s POE2. Try different gateway first. If that doesn’t work then rename your POE2 ini file. Start the game and it should create a new file.
If that doesn’t work then grab the template file from the wiki page.
Apple Intelligence not recommended while running POE2?
Apple Intelligence should be off if your OS is Tahoe. This impacts every app, not just POE2 if it is on. You will need to check it is still off when you apply OS updates as these turn it back on.
After updating to Tahoe (I don't have option to not do that) PoE2 in CO opened in "window" that is one quarter of whole screen....

yea the skill icons problem i have on my sequoia as well, irritating (and i play standalone)
The native app has always “worked” but as we all know there are several issues with it. Delve was finally fixed - though it can break any time a patch comes out. The icons don’t show on the skill bar and when you select other keys.
The Mac Steam client also has multi-threading disabled. I don’ recall seeing patch notes that they fixed that and turned it back on for the native client.
Windows client has none of those issues - hence the use of the Windows client via a WINE based app. Unless someone really enjoys using a busted client - to each their own.
There is a setting in CO you need to turn off for some controllers. I don’t use a controller so don’t call exactly. I think it is something that sounds like “HiDraw “

The client used to be x86_64, running under Rosetta2 translation on Apple Silicon.
It should now be a fat binary, with both x86_64 (Intel) and arm64 (Apple Silicon) code side by side.
well when i updated the game it kept crashing out and not starting btw (have screenshot but cant send)
i deleted it going to install it on crossover and the patch notes just gave me a slap on the face 😭

There's nothing inherently wrong with running with whatever that happens to float your boat. Just more possible options now.
It's a bit unfortunate that the pack files aren't portable between macOS and PC. It's close enough that you almost could make a tool to convert one, but too many devilish details 😄

If you have Crossover than setup POE and/or POE2 (if you have access) using Crossover. The steps are on the wiki page on how to do that. Depending on Internet connection this can take anywhere between 1hr and 4hrs or more to get done.

That sounds about right for the last several updates related to the Mac client. If the Mac client update is throwing errors there should be posts in the forum. As zao says - they can't fix what they aren't aware of (though honestly this should have been caught in QA)
Tbh I would stopped doing Mac if it was worst than using a emulator
I would just advice on emulator and move on to making sure windows is best quality
So emulators can run it to best capacity
It's just me though I hope their plans for Mac are bigger than what we see
To be clear that we're on the same page ...
WINE based apps, such as Crossover and Sikarugir are translators, not emulators. Translators are good for running modern Windows based games because they only need to translate code to native once. They are hit and miss with older games (like DX9 or DX10 or OpenGL)
Emulators are apps such as VMware Fusion of Parallels.
They need to translate code instructions twice, so they are inherently slower. Emulators are therefore terrible to run games like POE and POE2 - basically impossible. Good for older type games though.

The patch notes are out - but the patch is yet to be released. I assume the Apple Silicon version of the Mac installer is therefore not yet available for download.
if u have space on your HD u can have several installs of POE1, i have both native steam AND native standalone installed, just on different spots/ searchways - and if u install the crossover PC version u can have that one as well as i know of.

the standalone is not using steam, u login on poe homepage - first with steam - then register an email on that login, then login with email instead - then download the mac-version on homepage, and u will get another pathofexile-icon in the dock - and u can use that one to login on poe instead of steam with the email-login and that pw created for the email-login.
This will create a new download of the game on another place, not in the steam-folder. The plus here is it will have the multi-threading option (that is disabled with steam).
it is still capped on 60 fps on macnative, u can get better with crossover as i understand it (i only use native)

well when i downloaded from the native from the site the spells icons did not show and there was some lag even though i am on M4 Pro
the spells icons are a mac native issue atm
but maybe fixed after next week if we are lucky
the season will end on 27th, and then we have some days for sorting out
and new season starts on friday next week, and normally it is a total mess in the first weekend, with a lot of bugfixes and crashes

Curious. I upgraded to Tahoe (thought I had already done so), and now the game runs the launcher for a bit and then does nothing for a good while. Finally got a problem report just now, from the launcher itself.
Ah, there we go! Downloaded a new installer from the website and replaced my /Applications/Path of Exile.app. It's now Apple Silicon and launches the game fine on Tahoe.
The POE-Installer.dmg file on the website has both x86 and arm64 in it then ?
That’s a neat find on the icon issue but honestly … most people don’t both reporting this type of stuff because it goes into a black hole and hardly ever got a response or acknowledgement from support.
I can try it today sometime on a VM running Tahoe. Tahoe itself though has performance issues that still have not been fixed so I hope it runs with the icons fixed in Sequoia
Yeah, ran lipo -archs on the executable inside it before and after replacing it; went from x86_64 only to both.
The crash report on Tahoe also reported that it was translated x86_64 before replacement; and after replacing, it just worked instead 😄

The LHS is the current Mac native standalone client. The RHS is the installer downloaded last night from the POE website. The RHS doesn't show Rosetta as a requirement 👍
But now I'm confused because after download and move to /aPPLICATIONS IN tahoe it shows as the universal installer - which is Intel, not Silicon based as far as I know
You see the “Open using Rosetta” toggle, when that’s not checked it means it uses arm64.
When checked it’ll use Intel.
Yes that is what I usually assume, however the LHS one is the old Intel app, so why is Rosetta not marked. It can only be running the Intel version since a Silicon version was not available till yesterday. Or is this because the current app uses Rosetta 2, which does not have a check box
When an app is a single architecture it can only run that architecture so a “Open using Rosetta” won’t be visible
hi all, just installed steam and poe through sikarugir on an m4 macbook air. the game launches to the main menu but is stuck 'contacting login server' when i hit login. all of the server options just list the ping as '--', and it defaults my server to texas when i am in the eu (with no vpn). other games running through this steam install (deadlock) can connect to their servers so im not sure whats going on with poe. is this a known issue?
If all the servers are showing no timings that is a connection issue of some sort. I just connected and had no issues getting in to the game.
Was able to install and run the new native standalone client in Tahoe. Initially after starting the game would crash on the Kirac screen. I switched to FSR and the game started without issue.
I then set graphics back to use NIS. The game also worked so 🤷🏼♂️
The client seems to be using ARM64 as that is what showed up in the initial Apple crash log.
Delve still works but sadly the blank slot where skills with a cooldown are black squares is still there. Hard to believe GGG are not aware of this bug. It certainly would have shown up in a basic QA test. I’ll stick to the windows client for now.

have you made sure you're not running any electron apps that could otherwise be slowing down your system due to the bug?

When auras are activated they no longer show up on the activity bar. Pressing ctrl I should be able to see the active auras but they are still blank even after refresh. They do show on top of the screen if you have that set in the configuration menu but they should also display on the ctrl+letter slot after being activated
Are you using the native Mac client (standalone or Steam version) or the Windows client via a WINE based app ? On WINE based apps you should get above 60FPS - but that is dependant on multiple factors you have to fine tune as Unifor said. The native apps will not run above 60FPS (I have seen it as high as 70FPS by some fluke).
im not on tahoe so i dont think im affected by that bug

im getting around ~45fps when fighting on the first maps
like mud flats and the coast
im on a 4k monitor but i already put FSR to quality which should be 1440p
and even on the lowest resolution i dont notice a difference in performance

The native client, for whatever reason that will remain a mystery for now and evermore, has an FPS cap. You cannot go above 60FPS. In juiced maps you will be lucky to get 30FPS - even with settings at lowest possible. It's one reason not to use the native client and play with the Windows based one.
The cap has been there since the Mac client was created years ago.

The Apple Silicon is probably for the most part, a port of existing code, with some updates to make it run on Apple Silicon without needing to use Rosetta 2

Well Death Stranding wasn't built by GGG 🙃 I don't know for sure but I don't think GGG themselves built the client. I recall reading somewhere it was done by Tencent. It might be true, or it might be hearsay. Hard coding a FPS cap is easier than trying to code it properly.

Your new to this aren't you ? I can't remember when 3.17.4 was, which is when I started reporting graphics glitches in the mac client. It's basically been years with no status, reports or fixes. Mac based posts got to /dev/null

Switch to the Windows based client. Trust me - it's a way better experience and will save your sanity. You will be able to use higher resolutions and increased FPS. Your updates won't crap out for inexplicable reasons.
If you have Crossover you are already there. If you want a free WINE app setup Sikarugir (which has it's own discord channel). It will take you an hour and you'll never look back.

Yes. If you have the disk space there is no harm keeping the native client around. You can update it and try it every time a patch comes out and see if they have fixed anything. Then go back to playing the WINE based version. If you have an external SSD set the game up on that. The only thing that will then be on your internal disk is the Path of Exile folder under Documents.
