When doing any attack build there's generally 2 paths. PURE physical damage , or PURE elemental damage. Due to the many forms of conversion in the recent expansions elemental damage seems to be the go to form. The reason you pick a type and go down that route is because it's easier to scale all of the damage that's elemental.... it's much more efficient to do that then to scale up the damage that's split between elemental and physical. What i mean is... if all of your damage is lightning damage... you can use a gem like lightning penetration or curse with conductivity. Whereas if your damage was split in half physical half lightning.. you only get half of that bonus. So idealy you want all of your damage to be of 1 type. Now what's conversion. There's a lot of skills / gems/ uniques that convert a certain type of damage into another type. This only works in 1 direction. This is the direction Physical to Lightning to cold to fire to chaos. Meaning you cant go backwards... you can only go forward in that chain. So if you have a physical skill you can get that converted into lightning directly (phys to lightning gem) if you wanted to .. to scale lightning better. Now you may ask why not just scale phys instead of convert to lightning. Well the reason being if there are any items that give physical and lightning damage bonus you get this bonus twice. You initially get the bonus on the phys portion and then its converted and the lightning portion gets the bonus.
Is crit useful is a different story.. and entirely depends on build, there's no general rule for yes ths is good no this is bad.

when looking up # to #, add the min and max and divide by 2 and just put it in min slot
try it yourself first before looking at that

but if you search for 16.5 you will usually find jewels better than yours
so you gotta lower it slightly
