the thing with rake is: its just a single bleed applying damage and if you reapply it while the boss its already bleeding, it wont deal significantly more damage due to bleed effects not stacking
the maxroll build likely massively buffs the damage through certain support gems and passive skill nodes: buffing your damage greatly via the spear field and likely using crimson assault to heavily buff the rakes bleed damage at the cost of needing to reapply it
if that doesn't work out at your level, just use a normal single target damage skill like rapid assault (which also works with physical damage/bleed) as main damage source,
in addition to that, I would use a detonator like explosive spear or this jump-attack after using rapid assault multiple times to detonate the spearheads and you can still apply a single rake from a large distance and reapply it once it runs out

so im doing a werewolf build and noticed a node on the passive skill tree for projectile damage, now when i use shred on a frozen enemy it creates a projectile but when i hover over the node it says "no skill affected", is this a bug or are the shred ice fragments not considered projectiles even though it says it under the skill?

You can test by looking at your socketed skill gems and switching equipment

If it makes your DPS go up on the skill screen, use it. You can be more particular about your base item type later on. During the campaign its basically use whatever does the job.

Then that SHOULD work. If you go to the skill gem screen and expand the info and look at the ice shards see if their damage changes before/after the node.

Yeah those have been busted for a while, probably because things are changing do much each patch that fixing them isn't worth it.

I did a Mercenary build and according to the tree projectile damage wasn't affecting grenades.

Higher item level CAN (not guaranteed) roll better mods. Mods have their best rolls when they are tier 1. There are also whole items that will drop and say like "tier 2," those actually remove the lower tier mods from their stat pools.

Not at all. When leveling you should pick up anything that could be useful to you. And there are item tiers, and mod tiers. Higher item tiers, good. Lower mod tiers, good. Its backwards but that's how it is for the moment.

Yeah it definitely seems like a shader problem. Game freezes up, after about 10 seconds loads back up, gives me the cogwheel loading thing while it generates shaders (im guessing)

No fps problems though, max settings 144 fps almost 100% of the time

Honestly the biggest problem I found with warrior early on is that your best skill is boneshatter but you need heavy stun for it and the only reliable way to build that up is auto-attacking

Once you get to the endish of act 1 it gets much easier since you unlock better skills

With druid you can basically auto-attack your way through the first act on werewolf

Suggestions as to where to go from here?

The very TOP of the tree has a bunch of nodes that give bonuses to cold damage and cold resist bypass. But I am starting to feel pretty squishy against bosses and thought maybe energy shield nodes should be good? But my ascendancy has a perk that causes 20% of damage to be taken from mana before life as well so maybe more mana would be good? Mind, I don't have that perk yet.

If you double your mana it is still only protecting you from 20% of incoming damage at most.

You're taking too many small nodes. And defenses depend on your build. Don't do damage taken from mana unless you're going to be heavily investing in max mana. You can go energy shield but you need ways of sustaining it in combat. And make sure you're generally getting life and resists on gear.

Ice Nova
Snap - mass delete frozen mobs and pickup as many cold infusions as quick as possible

Right, but you want to minimize the number of small nodes it takes to get to the medium sized ones. Like go up one path or the other at the start of the tree, not both. That sort of thing.

There are a ton of spirit skills so it all depends on the build you're trying to achieve.

Well you get 100 spirit from the campaign.

But that gets used up pretty quick.

Many ascendancy nodes have things to work around. The rage node is very strong but adds a rage cost to skills.

If you can get the exposure node that's really strong since that increases your elemental damage.

Reactive growth is good defensively.

And what you want depends on what you're trying to do with the build. For better or worse, elemental spells have many infusion interactions that provide big buffs. You can work towards making those easier to generate/pickup, you can do cold damage, cast speed, more energy shield nodes, it goes on and on.

Hey everyone! I’m kinda new here last time I played was a 6 months ago and that was actually my first time playing. I made it through Act 3 with a Monk back then, but then I stopped. Now I want to get back into it, but I’m stuck choosing a class. I’m thinking about playing a Druid, but I’m not sure which build to start with that does the most damage, has cool visual effects, and is fun to play. Yeah you can't ignore defenses. Life and resists are the bare minimum, other defensive layers depend on your build. Again, energy shield becomes strong once you can actually restore it in combat.

Don't be afraid to buy a base from a vendor or gamble for items. Throwing a transmute and augment on a white item that gets you two good mods is better than a rare with four bad mods.

I did that for the chestpiece but it was rather pricey because of how many I bought. I don't really have the materials to upgrade a ton of them so I just checked the base modifier it came with and sold it back if it wasn't what I wanted

I would always try and improve the body armor (chest) with focus on Energy shield. Like I would say 200-300 ES on body armor is reasonable in act 3. then get the resistances from rings and other armor pieces but please not at the expense of movement speed on boots.

to append to the vendors that stand around, they refresh every level up. so check them regularly. I once bought a +3 Light spell skill wand with good side mods which was an insane pickup for my build at that time - that is to say - the vendors can actually have insanely good stuff (its rare tho).

Once you know what you enjoy the most, melee, ranged, spellcaster, then id worry about " builds " and such. Really anything works for quite awhile as long as your defenses are decent. Get flasks that have 10 uses for bosses. Just learn the game. Have fun

I found out when fighting the last boss of Act 2 that if you play smart and dodge well you can just let your native HP heal heal you up so you don't have to waste your flask. That actually made it a lot easier as I could save my flask for actual emergencies rather than pop it whenever my HP got low

I've never seen one in 4k hours of POE1.

75 looks right to me. Maxroll probably assumes you have all 100 from the campaign, and you're missing 40. 40 is the last amount you get from the campaign.

Because the ascendancy node only includes the actual evasion and energy shield on the body armor. If you could scale it like that people would have ridiculous amounts of spirit.

So if you want more, you need a body armor with more than 70 ES and 155 evasion.

Like I just explained, that node doesn't increase your spirit. The spirit only comes from the actual values ON the body armor. That node is just adding energy shield based on how much evasion is on your body armor. It doesn't change the body armor.
