No worries. POE2 is a seasonal game, with large (and free) expansions every 4 months. Each new league comes with a fresh economy, where we all start on the same level playing field.

They each feature a league mechanic, which is a big chunk of new content only available in the league that progresses the lore and also adds new crafting, combat, etc. (Often these mechanics also become part of the core game later).

This league is bringing the Druid class, a new ascendency for the Sorcerer, big performance improvements, and the Fate of the Vaal league mechanic.

Unlock traditional RPGs, your character is not the primary form of progression in POE. Instead, your personal growth in knowledge and skill over the course of seasons is. You'll end up making lots of characters over time, so don't stress about losing progress on your first one with a new league.

Six mods is normal limit (3 prefix, 3 suffix). Double corrupting can get you to 8 if you get lucky and roll a corrupted mod twice.

Yeah, you will be missing out on quite a bit if you keep playing in the Standard league. I'd definitely recommend you re-roll when the servers come back up. It will default to recommending the new Fate of the Vaal league for you.

And don't worry about being behind, literally all of us are starting fresh, and we all have to learn the new class and content for the first time.

Nope, every league everyone starts fresh. Although after the league your seasonal characters do get moved to Standard, so you can always go back and test things out with them. But highly, highly recommend you not play primarily in Standard.

It was a bit confusing for me too as a new player who'd never played ARPGs before. Why would I want to restart? But after you experience a season or two it will start to make sense.

You'll be suprised how much faster you get with experience. I think my first campaign run was like 35 hours. Now I can do it in like 8. This game has a lot of depth, the knowledge curve is a big part of your progression.

but if I understand correct. Season gives you a fresh start. You can't acces your previous items in your stash. You get new content only for that season. After that season you get thrown to standard and lose the extra content

All correct except for the very last point. You don't "lose" the extra content when the season ends. Instead, it (usually) becomes part of the core game, and then the new season builds on top of it.

This is a big difference in how GGG expands the game as opposed to many other ARPGs where the seasonal content is just temporary and then goes away.

Max level doesn't matter and isn't usually a goal. If a character isn't working by endgame, there's something wrong with the build. And after the planned 6 act campaign is finished, there won't be additional story chapters. Leagues add side content that add new methods of crafting, new content, new ways of building characters. But it isn't like an MMO where you take an existing character into harder and harder content that they add. You like your witch character, cool, but there are many many different ways to play a witch and that is only going to grow.

The easiest way to trade for gems is the currency exchange, I forget exactly when it unlocks, I think act 3 or 4

It depends if people have them to trade, and there are specific currencies people use for trading. Getting a level 9 gem isnt that hard, just keep progressing instead of stopping here every 5 minutes.

Order of operations question here.
Cold Attunement gives 25% of attack damage as extra cold damage with 50% less fire/lightning.
Embitter Support changes all damage gained to be treated as Cold instead of Fire/Lightning.
Does the game see this as: added fire/lightning damage, reduced because of cold attunement, then converted from Embitter, or would that damage be converted by Embitter and not get the 50% less penalty from Cold Attunement?

your not the tankiest as a sorceress so try to stay back and deal damage from a distance. of course there are enemies which will one tap you from time to time, but you can always go back to zones, regear, refresh, and try again 👍
