Chapter 1 - Seasons 0-3 & The Lone Wolves

  • Eggwars before seasons were implemented had a duo and team mode featuring larger match sizes and larger maps to accomodate more players, enderpearls were the primary recovery item when falling and punch bows were commonly employed to snipe players off of bridges and sky bases within the large voids between islands. Punch bows were also used to spam projectiles with relative ease not hindered by arbitrary fire-rate limitations leading to some situations where players are pinned and desperately clinging to clay buildings or entire teams firing volleys of arrows to defend their egg.
    Season 0's emerald shop expected players to camp the central island and gather emeralds which players rarely did and the items being overpowered were ultimately redundant and only advantageous to larger groups that could control the central island.
  • Eggwars season 1 began as an experiment which featured a variety of new shop items such as redstone components, match sizes shrunk, smaller maps were added, and egg effects were implemented. I personally played through this season but not much is memorable besides the bizarre shop and the decrease in match sizes.
  • Eggwars season 2 was released with the server updating from 1.8 to 1.19 which saw a drastic decrease in the overall size of the player count, many minigames were shut down leading players to switch to other existing minigames or quit. Emeralds were overhauled being obtainable from generators as well as the central island, the emerald shop was based on perks granting effects that applied to the individual, their team, or the whole match, the most overpowered being Discounted Discounts which lead to a new strategy of farming emeralds from generators going into enemy islands and stealing their emeralds.

Punch bows saw a significant enough debuff that it was no longer a practical weapon as it was before seasons were implemented, the fire-rate was hindered so that spamming was much slower and the knockback couldn't counter block clutching.
Leap feathers and elytra were added to the shop along with deployable buildings which were limited by cooldowns, deployable buildings rarely saw use outside of recreational building which was easily nullified by tnt among other items.
Netherite armor was added to the shop and was expensive only having slightly more durability than diamond and anti knockback properties which further limited bows and confined fights to land, fights were determined by playing strategically accumulating enough armor sets, golden apples, tnt, and recovery items to not die from fall damage, broken armor, or shear sustained damage. Fights were often slow and tedious lasting several minutes to hours to the displeasure of win-grinders and statistics oriented players, other players greatly enjoyed the new strategic gameplay despite the crippling of punch bows.

  • The playerbase surrounding eggwars gradually shrank with players complaining about opponents that played by themselves yet managed to survive and overcome their squads, elytras + leap feathers when timed correctly would save them from falling into the void and launch them across the map putting enough distance between themselves and their opponents to recover, gear up, destroy eggs, and eventually win. Season 3 released with the removal of elytra, netherite armor, and the mite-master perk, players who played by themselves had lost their advantage which replaced the punch bow being restricted to the same playstyles used by statistics oriented players who'd mastered them.

The leap feather was crippled with a stack limit of 3 items and a long cooldown, tnt was crippled with a stack limit of 8 items where it was unlimited before, these new arbitrary limitations couldn't be seen until a player being able to afford more tried to buy multiple stacks of an item or tried to use them in quick succession.

  • Players play alone for a variety of reasons among them being language barriers, a lack of friends, or their friends being preoccupied, the greatest advantage to have since season 3 is numbers and coordination, OG squads who've honed their skills in eggwars have exploited this to overwhelm newer players and lone survivors who are now forced to confront them or flee for much longer than they would in season 2 season 3 was intended to reduce the length of matches but in the process it undermined the strategy used by survivors by removing a crucial item used to gain distance from their opponents leading to even longer more repetitive matches.
    As season 3 stands you cannot win unless you employ untraceable hacks, flee until the opponents quit or stop pursuing, or kill everyone before they can gear up for survival, the gameplay is much more repetitive than it was in season 0-2 and although it's possible to adapt to this coercive gameplay it's not nearly as enjoyable as it used to be unless you're a statistics oriented player.

Chapter 2 - Super Smash Mobs / How Playerbases Die / Historical Oppression

  • Super Smash Mobs was a minigame hosted by Mineplex, a former minigame server which shut down due to neglect with the playerbase deteriorating from cheaters and toxicity.
    - I was a daily player that witnessed the deterioration of Super Smash Mobs and the server as a whole, it began with me choosing the blaze as my primary kit, all the kits had their own unique abilities and special moves which promoted different playstyles but mine was the most notoriously hard to counter. My regeneration was the worst out of every kit which necessitated me to flee and recover, I still had to deal damage in order to restore hunger for healing but with flexible abilities and relatively high damage I managed to survive and overcome my opponents. My opponents became outraged resorting to cross-teaming and cheating where I adapted and still overcame them with their unfair advantages, they went as far as to target blazes on sight to prevent players from using the kit, slandering and raging without consequence
    New players were deterred from replenishing SSM leaving the OG players to play by themselves and hone their skills, matches became incredibly toxic and I tried to defend myself against their slander and hypocrisy only to face moderation abuse for the first time, Every time I spoke I would be muted continuing until I'd been muted for more than 5 years straight, I tried to report my opponents but that didn't stop the cheating and cross-teaming so I just had to deal with it. Players would stall matches from starting and the playerbase gradually shrank until only the most competitive stayed, our skills were perfected and we wanted easier opponents but could only find competitive players.
  • The game stagnated and tryhards dominated, they composed the majority of the playerbase and ultimately went dormant with the fall of Mineplex as a server.

  • Survival servers follow a similar life cycle where the early joiners have time as their advantage, newer players are often hindered with artificial obstacles and have a harder time making new connections with the existing playerbase which has progressed and established barriers with high standards for new players to be accepted as members of their groups. Conflict between groups breaks out and saturates the atmosphere, if the players aren't willing to persevere through losses, toxicity, and dormancy they'll quit and new players will have even less opportunity to connect. Survival is the most strategic with fabricated buildings infrastructure to support building and maintenance, typically by default the best combat strategies are explosive pvp though some servers will balance combat strategies to encourage a wider variety of fighting such as elytra dog-fights with explosive rockets or make blast protection practical for melee in explosive combat.
    Survival servers are some of the most repetitive out there yet they attract playerbases because of a players creativity, their eagerness to build and fight, make stories of their nations and embed lore within their buildings, realizing long-term projects like netherite beacons or comically large and ornate trading complexes, even silly challenges like the largest pyramid or terraforming spawn regions into petrified stone plains, there's nothing limiting their playstyles so they can innovate and renew their joy.

  • The difference between playing the game and abuse is breaching the scope of the game, if I'm abusing players that means I'm personally offending them such as with doxxing, death threats, and distributing malware, we all have the power to stay or disconnect when we aren't enjoying the moment and new matches can be found easily, trolling is easily countered by cutting the opportunity short and everyone should know and expect this.

Chapter 3 - Rebalancing and new features

  • Add damaging/explosive rockets to the shop - used in conjunction with crossbow - restricted from elytra
  • Add Homing enchantment perk applied to bows

Why any of these should be implemented:

  • Anyone can adapt, players will use these features strategically, don't listen to players who are unwilling to try new features.

  • Elytras + leap feather are items which superseded punch bows after the punch bow was crippled, they're hard to buy but players can grind discounts to make them cheaper buying time to recover and gear up in order to overcome their opponents. The opponents can likewise grind discounts and use this strategy against them for shorter matches.

  • Punch bows were a strategic weapon that knocked players far and sniped them off of bridges, they need to be restored to their former potency in order to counter block clutching and rushers.
  • If you want to encourage more fortification then put eggs within walls that cannot be broken, players will fortify openings and opponents will be forced to mine through them to get behind parts of the map which enclose the egg.
  • If the punch bow absolutely cannot be upgraded then fast crossbows should take their place as defensive items, they're not very harmful and cannot punch players.
  • Damaging rockets deal splash damage unlike arrows having a more specialized use case such as sniping groups of sky bridgers coming towards your egg.
  • Eggmites, fireballs, instant walls, and instant towers are not so overpowered to require cooldowns or limits, we hardly ever see instant walls and towers used because they're too slow to counter snipers or squads in ground pursuit of a survivor, eggmites and fireballs would be awesome to spam and instant walls would be more useful without a cooldown.
  • The mite-master perk is easily countered by tnt and was expensive to buy, they're adorable not annoying.
  • If both a survivor and a squad have been pursuing each other for a long time then a homing enchantment perk applied to a power bow would force them to fight in the air, homing for 10 emeralds.

2+ Versions of 1 Minigame

  • A few players have proposed the idea of hosting seasons of eggwars as their own standalone mode like duos and teams, this would lead to splitting the eggwars playerbase between casual and competitive where competitive players would most likely flood the casual side and deter them from playing. An experimental practice mode was tried for Super Smash Mobs but the actual game was so unpopular that competitive players invaded the practice mode and deterred new players from practicing leading it to be shut down.
    Hosting season 2 alongside other iterations of eggwars is most likely impractical so the game has to remain as 1 appealing to every player.

Chapter 4 - A Divided Playerbase / The Fate of Multiplayer

  • Cubecraft is already split between versions Bedrock and Java, there is a disproportionate contempt against Java despite Bedrock getting most of the attention regarding features and updates but why not implement Geyser which allows Bedrock players to join Java servers? one server is easier to maintain than two or three. Multiplayer for Java is increasingly sparse with the majority of servers copying each others game modes, promoting gambling or Pay-To-Win gameplay, almost all the minigame servers besides Hypixel and Cubecraft have either abandoned Java or shut down, Java needs more options when it comes to minigame servers.
    Hypixel is a corrupt haven for cheaters, moderation abuse, and actual criminals who exploit the playerbase with scams and malware among other things, they permanently ban players with no opportunity to appeal thus hurting their money and they must be shut down for their multitude of offenses which breach the scope of the game.

    Create botnets with alt accounts that follow you and get your friends involved in parties to occupy eggwars lobbies before they start
    Practice good OPSEC to make it harder if not impossible to be banned
    Follow OG players into eggwars lobbies and leave before they can start, rejoin to restart the timer
    Repeat until the players quit or succeed in starting a match
    Optionally you can have your alts or friends posting messages regarding the OG Regression with links to this thread, make sure the chain is long enough to bypass the spam filter

If anything

  1. Elytra should return to prevdnt ceiling camping. Ceiling camps allow plays to turtle and build underneath the map. Elytras were an excellent counter paired with TNT

  2. Remove TNT cap: TNT was a win condition item to stop campers from chugging and entire stack of golden apples while having multiple sets of netherite armour.

  3. If 2. can’t be done, make erosion much, much stronger than it is now.

  4. Speed up generators if multiple people are on one. Noobs with absolutely no skill tend to take resources and then AFK for the entire game, preventing skilled players from rushing mid.

My opinion on this topic is that some things should be brought back and not others.
I do miss how the previous update required significantly more gold for debris, I believe the obsidian is too cheap.
I think higher damage output is fine to prevent extended games, and I appreciated netherite swords, however, netherite armor was not only extremely expensive and not commonly used, it dragged out games when people got it due to the unnecessarily high durability and just overall isn't needed back.
I agree with the removal of a cap on items such as leap feathers and TNT, because, while I did not use these items, they are not commonly used anyways and need a buff.
Same with the elytra, you almost never saw it in games because of its high cost and low durability.
bows are annoying either way, but the ender pearl is enough of a counter to make the argument for stronger punch slightly more valid.
I do think that the newer updates have reduced the player count, if not by a significant amount, and that many things should return to how they were.
Eggwars is meant to be a strategic game. Without strategy, it is just duels.
