The only reason there is () is to show that it is a negative number, and not a subtraction

(-x) negative number

I dont know how far you've gone in your education, but this does make sense and it does matter

() does only translate to multiplication when there is no other thing in between. Example:
3+(-2) = 1
3(-2) = -6
