Here are my thoughts on 1.9 pvp...
So the idea Mojang wrote on paper when making the update was good, "make pvp more interesting". However, the way they executed that was bad. Mojang ended up making pvp too slow for competitive pvp and pvp in general. This update also leveled out skill, in which anyone is able to use it well. The argument that 1.8 pvp is less skill than 1.9 is like saying "its not hard to be fast, but its hard to be slow". Silly, ikr. It takes more skill than just clicking fast. If you are good enough to know how to click really fast, you then need to know how and when to click at certain speeds and how to aim well with it. I think potpvp is a good example of the skill in 1.8 pvp, constantly having to switch from clicking to potting to rearranging your inventory to knowing when to block with your sword. In short, 1.8 requires more skill than just clicking. The only thing I dislike about 1.9+ is the combat, and others will agree. I feel like our next combat update will be much better for the community and more servers will move on from 1.8 finally. Mojang is taking some good steps to improve combat for the better, like faster attack speeds and an intuitive cooldown system.
In the end, the 1.9 combat was a mistake on Mojang's part

@raven solstice the reason we don’t accept cropped footage is because people frequently fake evidence, cropping video to hide parts of the screen that would give the fact it’s faked away is one way that users try to slip this evidence through. If we can’t be 100% certain that the player was cheating then we err on the side of caution and don’t ban. If they actually are cheating then they’ll often either get banned by sentinel or we get clearer evidence later.
