As we all know, the combat update is approaching with update 17. Furthermore, said combat will be dynamic, meaning no two fights will be the same. Therefore, I propose the introduction of a secondary mechanic to combat: wounds and scarring. When an animal engages in combat, it would have a chance of becoming wounded on areas of its body that may be damaged during the fight. These wounds could also match the type of injury which resulted in them, such as bite marks, stab marks, or large cuts and gashes. These wounds could be treated by the planned vet units, or left to heal naturally. Either way, they may become a scar, although they would have a higher chance of becoming a scar if they heal naturally. Open wounds and extensive scarring could create a negative effect on an animal's rating, but mild scarring could provide a bonus. The exact amount of scarring for the bonus would be different for each species. More peaceful species should have minimal scarring, while more aggressive species should have more.

tbh though I don't see why there should be a distinction between the scarring levels of peaceful and aggressive species
Well, I was thinking that animals might slowly acquire scars from minor combat over time, but only more aggressive animals would participate in minor combat for fun. Therefore, aggressive animals would have a greater amount of scars.
yes but I just mean that peaceful animals shouldn't get any less bonuses when having the same amount of scars as an aggressive animal just because they're peaceful
It sounds cool but itll be quite a difficult task for the dev team to my knowledge
Scarring would be a cool visual but I don't think it should affect the animals rating in any way. Otherwise optimal gameplay would require the player to set up some animal fights and I don't think that fits within PK. Blood sport rings are best left to JWE.

Wasn’t 1 of the old dev blog showing wip scarring mechanics
Yes, a long long long time ago
