The additional shapes and textures for the modular pieces were one of the biggest updates for building, and one day people will wake up to this fact properly. However right now we can't furniture with it. Currently there are no pieces in game that would make building proper furniture possible and the modular shape pieces are a great candidate for this. I think adding a leather and cloth texture to them would really allow us to make good looking furniture like armchairs and sofas.
