Hi I cannot figure out how to show a heal icon or a chain lightning icon at 5 stacks depending on my unit health health deficit. Ideally the icon shows heal I thought it was possible using three triggers, one for Maelstrom 5 stacks and two for health deficit under or over a number, then add two conditions one each if either trigger 2 or three was true. But this doesn't account for trigger one? I just need a basic pointer i can do the rest, but Im not sure how to approach the problem.

You only need two triggers. One for maelstrom stacks one for health of unit.
Make a condition that uses the ALL of drop down and include both a check for maelstrom stacks and health % then change the icon.

hmm pretty sure I understood your assistance, but nothing shows. I tried for the conditions trigger1 aura true and also stacks = 5 but no icon shows now

The icon appears during editing and disappears after I close WA gui. It didn't appear during testing at 5 stacks. The servers went down during testing so I cant check if its some logic issue between the display of the trigger and condition. I'll check what the other parts are and respond back to see what I might have messed up on.

The conditions don't affect the activation of the trigger, they just alter how it is displayed in your case.
So my guess is your triggers or load options are wrong

WeakAuras doesn't show anything by default, it's just the framework that lets you import or create "Auras" to display things. If you're having an issue with an Aura, and/or want opinions on it, then you need to share the specific Aura. The best way to do this is to link it through https://wago.io/.
If you only imported the aura, you may right click the aura in-game and select Copy URL and paste it here. If you have modified the aura or created your own, you may instead select Export to string... and upload the string to https://wago.io/. This does not require an account.
You can now paste the import string directly into Discord (with no other text, only the string) and a bot will import it for you and link the wago.

So if I play with the heal trigger to say show the icon when health is >1 that will show at 5 stacks of maelstrom. Good so far. But the issue comes if I make that same trigger < 80, nothing will show at 5 stacks. That is the problem, what I would like is the WeakAura to fall back to the icon in the display tab, which is for chain lightning, essentially providing an either/or logic for which icon to show, depending on health.

problem is your aura is turning off cuz it looks at trigger 2 which says "turn off when over 50% hp".
turn off the health % checkbox in trigger 2 so it's just an empty health trigger and then do rest of the icon setup in conditions.
