Movie sonics backstory is pretty nice, I like that alternate take and I loved the little we got of longclaw

I'm intrigued to see what the lore behind a lot of the new continuity is and i hope future projects expand on it. With the hindsight they have, it'll be easier to make something that's less messy than the games

But it showed he was still a caring man

Losing her meant the world and just was like "man what if I just fucking killed everyone and killed myself at the same time"

He never had evil intentions during the initial phases of Project Shadow but being imprisoned for 50 years immediately after losing his innocent granddaughter to the ones holding him captive only for them to force him to design their organization a weapon capable of mass genocide.. yea no that'd make him being full blown supervillain pretty damn sensical

Like at that moment, it was kinda neat to see a sonic that wasnt running on super hero instinct and genuinely went for the most selfish desire to beat shadow's face in while these dudes are setting up the death ray in the back

and it was also satisfying to see how he came down from that high

Amy used to be portrayed as someone whose a huge Sonic fan, and obsessing over him, Could we see a refusal of that? Where Sonic is curious that he sees a girl hedgehog, But not be all obsessive about it, But wants to get to know her, But she's playing hard to get?

Alright that definitely improved my view of the pacing for the movie; It's still fast but the scenes flowed better than I thought they did before

I think the effectiveness of Jim kiiiinda diminished with a second watch? Like it works like the knuckles show; the combination of disbelief that the series is taking that route + what others might think of it heightens how funny it is

He's not the emotional core that I originally assigned him to be, maybe on par with team sonic and shadow himself, but it's still really surprising how much it leans in his favor

Sonic is better than I originally thought he was in this movie too. He's not fixed or anything, but it's just an acceptable level of the kind of character movie sonic is that prime sonic usually failed to qualify for. Not particularly funny, but not insufferably annoying either at the same time.

Even the "no food or movies" line worked for me this time

With the pacing fixed and the characters mostly solid, I'd say that this is a fine enough movie, whether someone goes to see it for the cartoon characters and their cartoon character arcs, or the presumed insanity that Jim offers everyone who can't really buy into those as easily

Sonic was just more of the usual stuff this time for me, with the exception of how serious he got in the third act, but even then it’s not like his character switched on a dime and he suddenly become the version of him everyone wants to see on the big screen.

But then again I don’t mind that because I never found him particularly annoying in any of the other films either? 😭 He had his moments, but I never disliked him being on screen

I think the mid credits scene has more of the energy I’m looking for from him even if it’s just a quick line or two, but I doubt that was intentional really

But I’m still running off of my feelings from the first watch, I’m gonna wait until the digital release to see it again

Tbh I think the way the storyboard was changed kinda signposts that Carrey isn't coming back for the next movie

Like they have two directions they could take the scene, one where Carrey is coming back, one where Carrey says he's probably done. The unused storyboard shows Eggman's life flash in front of his eyes as he remembers how stone took care of him, before ultimately being sent back in time with Shadow. The final version instead has Eggman say a final goodbye to Stone as he remembers how good of a friend he was, and seeminly showing him die.

One sets up a future redemption while leaving his fate unclear, the other culminates in an emotional climax before showing his seeming end

So I wouldn't be surprised if Carrey said "yeah I'm kinda done" and they went with the final version as a result
