the official main reason that sonic has looked off beyond just the physical minimal alterations (like the thinning of his irises, updated fur grooming each film) post sonic 1, is that a lot of the key data & prior modeler/animator notes for the first films model to look & function the way it did was lost in transition to the new MPC studio after the vancouver one shut down. So they effectively had to build everything back up, along with the team size being smaller & that MPC branch not having the best history with organization and splitting of work didn’t make things better + covid.
Which is why after 2, they decided to go with multiple vendors to avoid putting all the grunt work on a singular vfx studio.
I think it’s just fate that something always has to happen admist the production of one of these films that they gotta encounter.
1 was the delay/redesign, 2 was covid effecting the pipeline, & 3 was the (rightful) actors strike.

richard ayoade (for those that don't remember, new actor to the cast of 4) starts going back on tour the 31st of this May, so it is looking likely that may 15th will genuinely be it for filming in its entirety.
Which only really matters to me because of the usual patterns I've seen with the past few movies' productions.
I'm so used to these cycles being longer because they pick up so much footage from real locations & so on.
Which they still did for 4, going by Bora Bora ofc.
But there's definitely an quicker pace & it's only reinforcing that a good majority of this film is going to be VFX heavy.
The whole marketing cycle for this film might be different now that I think about it.

The saving grace of the animation department is the fact that Jeff Fowler is an animator + They learned their lesson on not depending on a SINGLE VFX vendor for the majority of the production.
The Jeff Fowler thing really helps because he knows the ins & outs of the process in general & has 3 films under his belt in getting them out presentable by a deadline better than most other vfx heavy productions.

My main concern comes from what's gonna happen once Jeff Fowler feels like he's done enough as a director and goes for the producer seat instead.
He's not the sole factor for these films doing well ofc, a lot of people put their hats into the ring, especially Tyson. But I can't also definitively say that for that reason that Tyson would go for the chance of taking that directors chair, cause he might not even want to.
It helps to have someone that is familiar with the material and engages with the fans of that material on a leveled degree.
Especially when they have a fairly consistent communication going between them & SEGA, and all that jazz.

it's not that insane, if people are hyped it's because they enjoyed the past movies, in particular 3 has been seen as the goat, everyone agrees so they keep improving and people are more interested, it's like picking up the fruits from what you planted
while I would have liked a bigger SA2 adaptation and I would have made it later
it's really good and that was an Earth story, this time they can go beyond so I don't mind
they keep calling it the BEST Sonic movie yet, so must be interesting... I'm aready intrigued by the more animated side of things, in terms of worlds, and that we'll get like 8 CGI characters
