The way I view movie audiences nowadays is kinda colored by the amount of "good kids movies" that barely make it past Sonic's established box offices

Vs the ever massive Illumination box offices

Like the upper limit for anything that isn't as mass marketed and "G rated" as illumination movies or disney movies is the $600-400 million mark and that's it

And the way to reach those billion marks is to either be as G rated as those examples, or gain a draw from the older crowds who see stuff like transformers or Marvel for the sake of it

I'm watching the video rn, it's very cool and into details, I agree with the ideas that Metal should take over Robotnik eventually, if Eggman is dead/will stay dead after 4, this movie is the transition between Eggman and Metal, who will eventually turn into Neo and maybe continue his legacy, like Neo arc in IDW, I also like the idea of Metal being Eggman's secret weapon after his defeat, I really love that like in the comic, but at the same time I don't really expect them to reference IDW, maybe SEGA or Hesse could help with that, but I doubt it. There is not much to go of one way or another

I would give movie Amy the Sarah Connor route

If we take the Terminator stuff of movie 3's post credit as a direction

Like I know Sarah is known as this badass woman

But in t1 and some of t2, she used to be a normal woman who has to face the idea of being the only person aware of the world coming to an end

Which leads her to a path of Insanity and somewhat of nihilism

But in the context of the movies, traveling through time can allow Amy to recover the joy she Lost once she meets Sonic and the others

It’s really a toss because of so many factors

There’s the studio (mostly new management & however much they want to get their fingers into creative decisons/catering certain things to what they percieve as the ‘general audience’ wanting), but there’s also the alternative of that want being paralleled via good reference of things for Amy’s potrayal, as I commonly say with Kpop Demon Hunters & the industry really wanting to get on that bag with whatever property they have. Including Paramount.

so there, it’s a matter of executive elevator pitching, that can make the trade off for an generic female lead (Princess Peach & ‘arguably’ Elita from Transformers one for reference in recent memory).

Then you have the creative team side of things, where Jeff & co, actively don’t intentionally want to piss off any fans of the central cast/at least want to capture the general essence of what they are & do, while still being their own interpretations when pulling from outer sourcr material.

Add that with their collaboration efforts with SEGA, who also has a say in the creative process of what does & doesn’t fly, which we got a tiny hint of in that marza article for movie 3 where they suggested to pretty up/make Amy look cute as a standard compared to what was maybe a more tousled/forwardly ‘bad future’ looking design.

Hell I think Jeff said that her hammer even looked more aggressive at some point & then they reeled it back on their own accord because it was missing something of that original charm/simplicity.

But then you also have the fact that SEGA has had a say on the Amy we currently have in the games as well, which hasn’t been exactly ‘loved’ as more time goes on. So it’s a toss there on how they suggest they present her in characterization on their side.

I’m not sure if that last position was always there, or that was a recent development with him working on 4, but that’s where he’s at.

So it's much more difficult to tell over what will be her portrayal compared to like Peach where her portrayal has always remain the same since her debut before movie exist

I think regardless, be it they lean into a more adjacent characterization of who fans have wanted her to return to or in that category of what some call a “Girl Boss”, there are aspects of her that I think just won’t be that prevelant for an film format/with an general audience in mind in the outcome.

Which I don’t think it’s crazy to say that her infatuation with Sonic won’t be as ‘rampant’ or constantly outward for a runtime of maybe 2 hours or so, or at least she’ll be having other aspects/traits in her writing that they’ll attempt to balance that dynamic out with on her side. To avoid it from being potentially ‘grating’ to that said general audience.

Now with that in mind, that shouldn’t cancel out her having her empathy/kindness, spunk, etc, Those are all things she owns seperate from her care for Sonic regardless, that’s where my main hope is generally speaking.

I say this like almost every other time, but Amy’s main saving grace in my opinion is that these films are still considered comedies & no two people are exactly the same in the cast so far.
