meanwhile sonic can’t just plug a bunch of games and get away with it, it’s media is expected to be able to stand on its own

and I know this because everybody showered the Mario movie with relentless praise, meanwhile people are still accusing the sonic movies of being made by people who don’t care about sonic

If they're lazily pasted on top of the scene like Bob was saying, sure, but incorporating them into the soundtrack isn't the blight it's being made out to be

Deleter pointed out earlier that leitmotifs can be used to enhance soundtracks, which is agree with. but the thing is, you can do that without referencing the games. it’s not just a matter of audience immersion, but the series has so many different tracks for characters and locations that don’t 1:1 translate to the movieverse

A problem with the soundtracks is that there ARE leitmotifs but they’re rarely used in a creative way. I think there needs to be a happy medium between the use of game PRINCIPLES atop of theatrical compositing

the captain underpants movie has two songs on its soundtrack, the titular character’s theme song by weird all, and A Friend Like You for george and harold

you can tell these songs were made in collaboration with the soundtrack because those motifs are ALLLL over the movie. you hear those notes all the time, and they’re always used in unique, distinct ways to fit the tone and feel of a scene. it’s that kind of immersion and effort that’s missing from the sonic movies’ OST
