Well the sad part is barely any kid played CD in 1993 so it's like an AU take anyways lol. But like, those 90s Sonic games were very ambitious for their time, and they tried to 1-up themselves with every game. My brothers ate the genesis games up, as I'm sure many other kids did (and also the 3 kids that played CD probably liked it a lot).

Nowadays kids are gonna look at Superstars and think nothing really. If they like Sonic from watching youtube videos and they see the game at Walmart, then they'll maybe ask their parents to get it, but like no kid is gonna go to their friends and say "guys this Sonic Superstars game is awesome"

I mean what you listed are the problems, but I guess I'll have to add more then.

It doesn't only have shitty bosses, it has gimmicky shitty bosses, like in both Hydrocity acts, or Chemical Plant 2. They're neat the first time, sure, but on replays they drag the pace to a halt.

Mirage Saloon act 1 as Sonic is just Sky Chase, which was not good in Sonic 2 and I have no idea why cut one level out for Sonic just to have the chase. Plus that boss' hitbox is wonky.

Titanic Monarch is way too long for its own good, even if it's meant to be this final act. It wouldn't be that much of a problem (and it's not as rough as S3K's Death Egg) if the time limit of 10 minutes didn't exist.

Hitboxes tend to be outright bad, just like in all the RSDK games and I'm surprised this has just never been fixed. Probably the most important thing for me, dying to a random-ass pixel that's between 2 blocks is just not good.

I'd also argue the 2nd half kinda drags in general, kinda like Sonic 2. They made decent levels, sure, I just feel a bit of a fatigue whenever I get to somewhere around Oil Ocean.

Again, that's going back to bosses, but Plus made the final phase of Metal Sonic boss a lot worse due to how physics engine works. For example, if you accidentally hit the back of the glass ball, you're pretty much in a non-recoverable position. I lost way too many lives and I think 2 continues there, it sucked.

It's a lot of things like that that add up and make the experience so much worse, at least for me

I’ll agree with you on the points about the bosses and MSZ1. As for the rest, I guess it comes down to personal experience/subjectivity because I never really experienced fatigue playing Mania, nor did I run into any collision oddities across any RSDK games that actively hindered me in a way I noticed (although I accept that the problem does exist)

You have some fair points overall but I still would argue that the things you described shouldn’t have added up to resulting in the game “just being okay” or anything of the sort. You mentioned how you binged Mania to hell and back upon launch and potentially permanently burned yourself out of it from the start, so I do wonder if that’s just forever going to affect your overall perception of the game.
