From what I saw and trad of interviews, I honestly think it was an ambition thing in to many areas along with budget aspects.

Production was intertwined with 3 (including vfx teams)

First time doing the films in a TV format.

Wanting to lean into comedy further. But also wanting to Amp up the action to, etc.

There aren't many shows that are this experimental, in tandem with a cg character as a main star.
So I appreciate the ambition, but something is gonna fall short in this big assortment.

I watched the show. I mean yeah there’s some things I wish was changed, like knuckles being in the show more… but I’ve consumed sonic media that has made me need to take a moment in how vile it is. I’ve consumed sonic media that is painfully mediocre in execution (even when there is an excellent idea there!) this? Is not that at all. I think it tells a nice, short, digestible story, that fleshes out this version of Knuckles a bit more in giving him a reason post-movie. Not everything lands but it’s a romp.

Robotniks Ring racers

Dr. Robotnik's Ring Racers (aka SRB2Kart v2 rebranded to a sequel) just dropped. It has an insanely long tutorial and the game has a bunch of complicated mechanics, and there's no way to easily skip the tutorial. Once you get through that, you still cannot play online mode (You need to unlock it by playing the first singleplayer cup which doesn't incorporate most of the mechanics explained to you in the hourlong tutorial) and people, reasonably, don't like it

You also have to unlock other basic things like the ability to load addons, something that was available to do out of the box in v1. The screenshot is of a dev coping with all the negative feedback

I think the problem is that 'Knuckles' is a step backwards for the Paramount series. It's essentially a Sonic Movie 1 in that it's a funny haha buddy road trip comedy with goofy animal/human hijinks, well after Movie 2 establishes that they're gonna transition further away from that, with 3 supposedly going further into specifically game elements than not.
Knuckles has the unfortunate situation of being in-between Sonic 2 and 3, hence why it sticks out so much. Sonic 1 had the excuse of introducing the average joe to the franchise, so being a buddy road trip was ffffffffffffffine. It was fine. Very ffffffffffine, but now, it's not really warranted anymore, since we've been used to this canon by now.

Yeah, Wade is the funny haha comedic relief and Knuckles isn't really up to date on plenty of things, but you can still get away with a series focused on them without regressing behind the kind of tone Sonic 2 established

ESPECIALLY if there's gonna be a movie afterwards that involves a little girl's death causing an all-powerful science experiment go mad

A lot of people have been making this theoretical Knuckles series where he hangs out with the Chaotix. While that would definitely go against the limited budget they were probably aiming for, I think it would’ve helped with the show.

Imagine, instead of a goddamn bowling tournament, Wade just wants to prove himself after being seen as an incompetent goofball, a man child. He wants to be a legitimate man of the law, and the one person he thinks will help him is Knuckles. They don’t exactly get along at first, what with Knuckles being stern and too dedicated, and Wade being a goober.

The comes the Chaotix, who need Knuckles’ aid in solving a mystery or crime that could jeopardize both worlds. Wade tags along because this is his chance to be a legit do-gooder, because the Chaotix are what Wade wants to be, and what Wade wants out of his bond with Knuckles. Knuckles shows clear favoritism towards the Chaotix, giving Wade competition and motivation to improve himself. Both learn to work together, to accept one another’s faults to further their strengths, becoming an unlikely but capable duo.
