Alright, the directions from that page refer to actual paid services. So anyway, click "Log In" from the single sign on page. We'll see what IP is listed for your instance and hope that maybe it changed or something simple

love the thread name

toxic steeple
#

There were more strongly worded titles I considered but I at least pretend to be professional about things 😆

copper apex
#

I can't even log in atm

toxic steeple
#

😬

copper apex
#

saying password is wrong

#

treied to change password

#

and it it took me to an error page

Need to go through the SSO portal.

#

You most probably do not have a federated account.

copper apex
#

so do i click Continue instead?

toxic steeple
#

There may be long gaps in my responses due to keeping a small five year old alive and uninjured

lunar pasture
#

Yes.

copper apex
#

Discord went down too to make things worse

#

it's back now

#

Okay im on my dashboard

#

and i can see the Instance details, it says 'Foundry' is Running

#

i guess i need to click "ephermeral public IP" or "reserved public IP"?

toxic steeple
#

Try Reserved Public IP and see if anything comes up

copper apex
#

takes me to

toxic steeple
#

Follow steps 1 thru 7, I'll grab screenshots to help

#

Click the three bars at the top left hand of the screen, go to Compute -> Instances and click on that

copper apex
#

ok

#

my instance isn't listed here btw

toxic steeple
#

How did you access your Instance Details page from your earlier screenshot?

copper apex
#

I clicked Dashboard

#

Compte Instances

toxic steeple
#

Ok, get back to that page, scroll down, and then on the bottom left click on Attached VNICs

#

Then click the VNIC name, most likely "foundry"

copper apex
#

ok

toxic steeple
#

Then scroll down, select "IPv4 Addresses" (1), and then click the three dots (2) and select Edit. Then get a screenshot of what comes up

copper apex
toxic steeple
#

Try selecting Ephemeral public IP

#

And cross your fingers

copper apex
#

It has a field

toxic steeple
#

I'm hoping it'll give a way to autogenerate but- damnit

copper apex
#

yea its a blank field to enter one

toxic steeple
#

Try clicking "Update", that field down at the bottom should be optional

copper apex
#

ok

toxic steeple
#

Try connecting to that public IP address now

#

Look familiar?

copper apex
#

yus!

copper apex
#

lmao, thanks for the help!

toxic steeple
#

No problem, thanks for your patience as we worked all this out

copper apex
#

While i have you

#

How do i put a password on the admin of foundry?

toxic steeple
#

It appears you've got one set already though

copper apex
#

yea set but not set

#

lemme explain

#

I can get to the admin page

#

by entering the world

#

then pressing ESC and clicking Return to Setup

toxic steeple
#

If you've already logged in as the Administrator earlier, I believe you don't need to re-enter it upon logging into the game and clicking return to setup

#

Or if you don't have one set, you have to log in as the GM and then click return to setup

#

As a security precaution

copper apex
#

oh ok so i should put a password for the GM?

toxic steeple
#

And for your admin password too. But yes, put in a password for the Gamemaster user in the world, and then go back to setup and set up an admin password in the configuration panel

copper apex
#

aslo that password looks like too many characters for the one i use

toxic steeple
#

That screenshot was from my server

copper apex
#

oh but mine is the same length

#

im guesing the field always displays the same amount

#

again for security

toxic steeple
#

Yes

#

I'll be unavailable for a bit as I get the 5 year old ready for bed. If you need any further assistance with Foundry stuff, #troubleshooting can help you out

copper apex
#

also, what does it mean now to be on ephemeral IP, will it run out again at some point and i have to pick a new one again?

#

Okay, good luck with your Skill Challenge!

#

Thanks again

toxic steeple
#

If my understanding of Oracle's documentation is correct, ephemeral IPs don't persist beyond the instance being terminated, and can't be assigned to a different instance

livid forum
#

If we reboot the instance will the IP go away?

toxic steeple
#

🤷‍♀️ Rebooting the server with sudo reboot doesn't change anything, but terminating and starting the instance again might. I'd read Oracle's documentation on Ephemeral IPs

Confirmed that rebooting from the oracle dashboard also deosn't
