To make your 3D-printed coins feel more metallic, you have a few options:

  1. Filament Choice: Look for metallic or metal-filled filaments like copper or bronze. These filaments contain metal particles, giving your coins a more metallic appearance and feel.

  2. Post-Processing: After printing, you can use techniques like sanding or polishing to smooth the surface of the coins and remove layer lines. This can help enhance their metallic look and feel.

  3. Coating: You can apply a metallic paint or coating to the printed coins. For instance, metallic spray paint or metal rub-and-buff wax can give your coins a realistic metallic finish. Experiment with different coating methods to achieve the desired effect.

Remember to follow safety guidelines when using paints or coatings, and ensure proper ventilation in your workspace.

Have fun printing your D&D coins!

electroplating is your best bet.

It's good to pick denser filaments as it's good to feel the weight, stiff materials will make noise better too

there is protopasta copperfill

#

but that needs post processing and won't feel like metal

Electroplating by itself won't give metallic feel either, just metallic look

do stuff to the print after it's done

#

another way would be to design your coins to be hollow, pause the print to insert heavy stuff (sand/washer) then finish the print

To make coins heavier, you can make them as faces you glue onto metal washers, this'd both make them easy to print and heavy

#

Yep

#

You want a hard, stiff plastic for this, to get as close as possible

#

PLA would be the easy option, I'd recommend trying it out first

Yeah. DIN125 washer type A for M12 seems perfect, 24mm OD, 2.5mm thick

#

That's the easy choice, I can look for a better one but could be harder to find and/or more expensive

#

Just calculate volume and get mass from volume and density

#

It's more expensive than washers + PLA, needs hardened steel nozzle, I'm not sure it'd be as heavy

You can still 3d print the coins, maybe in two halves, glue them together and make the casting mold from there. You'll have to put some effort into post processing regardless otherwise you'll probably still end up with layer lines. You could enable ironing on all top surfaces (Orca slicer) to get the surface nice and flat. No idea what that will do to the detail.
