In situations where you need supports for an object above a hole, but the position of the supports blocks the opening, you have a few options to consider:

  1. Adjust support settings: Most slicing software allows you to modify various parameters for supports, such as their density or the angle at which they are generated. Try reducing the support density or choose a different support angle to minimize interference with the hole.

  2. Use a different support structure: Consider using tree supports or custom supports instead of the default ones provided by your slicing software. These alternative support structures are often more flexible and can be manually positioned to avoid blocking the hole.

  3. Modify the model: If possible, you can make manual adjustments to the 3D model itself. This may involve creating custom support structures or modifying the design to allow for easier support removal or better support placement.

  4. Post-processing: If none of the above options work, you ca...

In the supports settings, there should be an option to generate supports 'touching buildplate only', and I'd highly recommend that with the organic supports 🙂 it makes it way easier to remove.

Overhangs like those screw holes usually need to be supported, but if you're printing PLA on a printer with a part cooling fan, keep in mind that short bridges are usually pretty doable without supports.
