#Plastic Switch puller

So I was swapping out my switches, and some of them are so stuck in there that I couldn't make them budge. So much so that my plastic puller broke. Twice.

Can I use a metal one, or could that damage the shiny, expensive keyboard that I love dearly? Is there anything I should be mindful of while switching out switches in general? Kind of nervous ngl

The plastic switch/keycap puller that’s provided with the keyboard works, but it’s hot garbage and breaks easy. Feel free to use another switch/keycap puller. If it’s metal, just be sure not to scratch the case or switch plate (if that concerns you).

i have cut myself like 5 times using the plastic ones

#

the ammount of force required to remove the ones at the end are a bit nuts

Yeah it’s bad. I got maybe 3 switches swapped with mine before the “teeth” that grab the switch snapped right off.

Sometimes you can be better off just separating the plate from pcb

one of the plastic pullers cracked my nail from the force

If you squeeze the switch like a MF as you’re trying to pull it, you’ll crack the switch housing

versed sun
#

uh oh

#

how do I know if I did that ?

digital hollow
#

You’ll find plastic bits of the switch

versed sun
#

ok have not spotted any and I have done like 90% of the keyboard

#

so crisis averted

#

however, I found tiny bits of the goddamn switch puller

#

now I am a bit worried I might damanged the switch housing

#

what would that do ?

#

make the swtiches more wobbly or disfunctional?

The switch just has 2 little clips on it that holds it secure to the switch plate. You just gotta squeeze enough so the clips release the plate. But yeah with the stock wooting switch puller, if it slips when pulling, the teeth pretty much break because of how thin and poorly designed they are. You’d know if the switch housing is cracked or a piece broken off of it. People that don’t know what they’re doing when they replace switches often break the clips that hold it into the plate, the pins, or the entire housing shell. If there’s no visible cracks or chips, you’re fine.
