Hi i just got my 80he TenZ edition. It is in ansi layout but i am from Germany and we use letters like ä etc. . Now want to import them so i can technically still use them even if i don't see them on the keyboard.
Can somebody help me with the import of letters in Wootility?

itll just work

#

whats printed on the keycaps doesnt matter

#

what matters is what keyboard layout you set in your OS

#

the print on the keycaps is just so you know where the keys are if you use the same keyboard language in Windows as you bought as a keyboard

sharp lynx
#

yeah ofc but u can give custom keys no

steep lintel
#

idk what you mean with custom keys

#

if you mean in wootility remap then no not really

sharp lynx
steep lintel
#

if you set Windows to be US keyboard layout then the keyboard layout has no umlaute at all

#

there is no way to input them without work arounds

#

1 work around is using US (International) and not US for the keyboard layout

#

it changes how the " key works

#

(and some others)

#

so pressing " waits for the next keypress and then combines it or doesnt

sharp lynx
#

i used an merikan layout wiith germen in my os and it screwed some shit up

steep lintel
#

what

sharp lynx
#

but u say when i use english international i should work or what

steep lintel
#

it also works if you just set it to german in windows

#

just that the keycap print does not match

sharp lynx
#

but its a different layoout and for eg. the enter key is different so it messes some stuff up

steep lintel
#

no

sharp lynx
#

u sure

steep lintel
#

the key in ANSI thats above enter is the key left of the enter in ISO

#

the only thing "messed up" is that you are "losing" a key which is the key next to right shift on the ISO layout

#

on a german keyboard that is <>\

#

but you can remap that to the FN layer if you need it

#

as you can see literally just moves

#

and this is how your keyboard sees itself and how the PC sees the keyboard. no letters (thats what the keyboard layout in Windows handles) just numbers of the key position

sharp lynx
#

okay i would have bet everything on my old ansi keybord doing some wierd stuff

#

it sounds logic what u say

steep lintel
#

it can feel weird if you dont know the layout and the print on the keycaps doesnt match

sharp lynx
#

maybe

steep lintel
#

also to quickly come back to US international

#

its a good option for german actually

#

you know how ` key works?

#

where you have to press it once and then spacebar to get it to show up?

#

or you press ` and then e and it makes the combined character

#

US international does that with a few more things like " and ' (i think even ~)

sharp lynx
#

yes#

steep lintel
#

so you can just press " and a and get ä

#

US international also has ways to type ß and ẞ (upper and lowercase eszett)

sharp lynx
#

i mean typing a # sometimes

steep lintel
#

oh yeah cause youre used to hit enter higher up but now its a flat key

#

but yeah I suggest trying US international

#

its a nice solution to keep the keycap print matching

#

but also input any character special to languages outside of english

i wll try it now thx for the help
