#80HE Noisy key

I have a problem with noisy key, sometimes it is "2", but couple of times I've seen backspace, l-ctrl and some other key. Signal fluctuates around 0.2mm, usually it happens in tachyon mode, though sometimes it happens in regular mode as well. Sometimes absurdly issue present in regular mode and disappears when tachyon is enabled. And usually it can be fixed with reconnecting / power cycling keyboard.

What is this? Hardware problem or firmware issue?
On screenshots I caught how issue started and then... stopped while I was typing this exact post. By itself.

I've definitely seen similar signal from L-CTRL, but only once. Backspace and some other key looked like first screenshot, not extensive noise but small random spikes.
Is it possible that faulty sensor's signal gets filtered, but sometimes filter is unable to address the noise? Since the problem is not present constantly. Or maybe this issue is caused by something like PCB / sensor temperature?

Overall I really don't want to go into "faulty hardware" route, because it is time consuming. So I want some confirmation, not only by how signal looks like, but also that faulty sensor can behave like that, work completely normal and then give noise at some point by itself, and then noise disappears after power cycle or even by itself.

There is some firmware filtering in place to remove slight noise caused by tolerance differences between individual sensors, EMI, etc.
From what is demonstrated in the image, this is not a normal amount of noise and is well beyond the range the firmware would, or should, need to filter out, which points toward a faulty sensor.

Please note that this is a theory.

I assume the sensor is not operating correctly when it does not receive enough voltage. If a sensor is not supplied with sufficient voltage, it should still function correctly down to a certain level, but in this case I assume the affected sensors are not operating within specifications.

For reference, the Hall sensors are supplied with 3.3 V. (for the 80HE

To give an example, the majority of the sensors work fine when the voltage drops to 2 V, but two sensors start to exhibit noise.

Please keep in mind this is only a theory. The only way to really know is by using various tools to test the sensors under different conditions to confirm this.

(some possible test is to lower the power draw of the keyboard and see if this lowers the issue)

  • Turn of RGB
  • Disable tachyon mode
    are too big power draw

RGB seems doesn't affect the situation, no difference between 100% and 0%

#

and what's interesting, right now I see noise close to max depression, but not 0mm/unpressed:

the calibration may of hidden the noise (recorded a higher value) and the switch goes lower then that (or only spikes are detected)

second with no rgb and no tachyon

Sorry - the power test is the most ideal as this may not free up enough power for the sensors still

either case this looks like a defective sensors and will need warranty help

yeah, and I definitely see three keys at least affected, which is very weird

#

maybe something to do with tikken switches?

slow peak
#

unlikely the switch's only contain a magnet it can incresae the noise being picked up as these are very stable

Have sinmilar issue as well, using likker tikken too

just saw this post, what is the software to measure this? Also is there any physical issue that a switch sometimes doesn't work or how you find out that you have this problem?

subtle girder
#

I just opened wootility and saw that something is being pressed

#

I set acc point of all keys to 0.1mm, to check what key is activated

#

Then it all got messy🤣

I spend 240 euros on keyboard ,that has problems out of the box.Now im tilted

yes, but because I use normal 1.6mm for typing profile and 0.8mm for gaming profile, I didn't really have issue with self-typing and didn't pay much attention to this problem, because the only thing it did is jitter in wootility. And then I discovered doubleclicking in one of the games using "2" as input.

yeah im using 0.1mm in games, also 2 is a key that is used frequently in game (ability, secondary gun), would be an instant return for repair or switch for me and if a firmware update doesn't help with that, I would recommend that for you even if it doesn't really effects you, a 200+ Euro Board is still a 200+ Euro Board and you never know if you gonna use 0.1mm one day. Thank you for the explanation and I hope you resolve the problem asap, have a nice day!

It seems to be most of us that have got new keyboards? for me it's various keys :

F1
B
M
6
'
ESC
8

are the ones I've managed to capture when it happens to me, odd.

Hopefully you can get it resolved and hopefully I can also! haha

Yeah it’s annoying, sometimes will happen for minutes at a time even after unplugging and plugging sometimes not at all for hours

Waiting for a response via ticket and see what happens I guess and yeah

Yeah, few days ago and seems a lot of them are similar so yeah fingers crossed for a quick resolve haha
