#Backspace Sticks 60HE v2

I recently got a 60HEv2 Module and Optimum case and keycaps and Lekker tikken switches. Everything is perfect, however sometimes the backspace key gets stuck. It's the only one that does it, and after taking off the keycaps, have deduced it's due to the stabiliser getting stuck in the down position. I can force it back to unstick and sometimes mashing the key will unstick it. I had a look at it and it could be due to being overlubed? I saw a bit of lube on the metal wire part and it seems to be flowing out a little bit. I am quite new to keyboard modding/dissassembly and tried looking at a video for the 60HE v1 but I realised the stabilisers are mounted differently. Does anyone know how I could deal with this?

Can you remove the module and check if it still sticks?

blazing moss
#

Yeah it still does, the key itself doesn't touch the case

Hmm, I suspect this might be because the PET film isn't positioned correctly under the stabilizer, or because some lube has leaked onto it, causing the stickiness.

  1. Pull the module out of the case using the included orange module puller
  2. Remove all screws from the back of the PCB
  3. Carefully separate the PCB from the plate
  4. Remove the stabilizers
  5. Reposition the PET film and clean it if there's any lube on it
  6. Reassemble the keyboard

should i also remove all keycaps?

Also am I looking for all the P screws to unscrew the plate?

#

Or stab screws as well

Thanks

#

Do I need to remove all stabiliser keycaps or just my backspace?

#

Also should I pull the switches out of the stabilised keys

tranquil cloud
#

No need to pull switches

blazing moss
#

Thanks for your patience haha

#

Okay I’ve undone the screws now

#

Should I try to pull the plate from the pcb?

#

I also need to unclip the SH somehow right?

blazing moss
#

Oh brilliant thanks

You can ignore the rest of the video

blazing moss
#

There is a lil bit of lube on the film

#

Can I use an alcohol wipe to clean it?

#

From the look of it do you think the stabiliser needs any cleaning as well?

I don’t have a brush sadly

tranquil cloud

You can use Q-tip

blazing moss
#

I just reassembled it and thank you so much that worked great

#

Thank you for your patience as well

#

It was a bit daunting at first cuz I didn’t wanna break anything but I can see they’re made to be repairable

Could also be tolerance issue between the keycap and the stabiliser, I've had issues in the past with some stabs and keycaps not working together no matter what I did, but other keycap set was fine

blazing moss
#

I thought it was the lube as I would notice that weird sticky sound, and it only happened occasionally but enough to be annoying when coding for example

tranquil cloud
#

Yeah, it's annoying, I agree

blazing moss
#

But at least it was a 10 minute fix not like having to get new stabilisers or something

blazing moss
#

It seems the fix was temporary

#

I just cleaned the lube off it again and redistributed it inside

#

But it might be a keycap tolerance issue as well

#

Sadly I only have 1 keycap set lol

That's unfortunate. Have you tried reassembling the backspace stabilizer? https://youtu.be/usNx1_d0HbQ (7:33)

Like where it rests on the plate or just between the stab and keycap

blazing moss
#

Like a literal 1x1mm piece?

tranquil cloud
#

yeah, just add something on the stab stem like a plastic wrap for example

#

then put the keycap

blazing moss
#

Not sure if it happened for you yet but happy new year btw!

tranquil cloud
#

Happy new year to you too!

The tape helped a bit but I think the action is a bit sticky/sluggish still

#

I might have to disassemble and lube it

#

It doesn't get stuck though, even if I mash the key down, which it used to

#

so the tape did help a lot, so thank you for that
