Yes, it's compatible, but only with the stock v2 module. You won't be able to use Owlab's carbon fiber plate and mounting.

Was it just the split layout that wouldn't fit, due to the different switch holes? Regular v2 fit?
Correct, regular v2 fits perfectly fine as owlab plate has holes cut for both old v1 and the new v2 module (non split versions). It's just split version where the owlab plate doesn't fit. If you have the split version then you can still use the owlab case but you'll instead want to just drop the entire v2 split module into owlab case without using the owlab plate system.
Does the carbon plate offer a real benefit ? Or is it just visual ?
No benefit, it's just stiffer and sounds different
And there will likely be split carbon plates at some point anyway, once enthusiasts get the new 3d files for plates.
