#80HE V2 or 2HE V2 Next?

What comes next after the dial knob? I’ve been thinking about a possible direction: imagine a 2HE V2 that supports a detachable USB numpad — sold separately as an optional module.

This could satisfy both groups:
• people who want a numpad, and
• people who want a full-size layout but prefer the numpad on the left side.

Most importantly, this layout would finally allow all six navigation keys above the arrow cluster — something I’ve personally always wanted.

My idea is to keep it cost-efficient by making the numpad connect via USB. If the keyboard had a small USB port on both the left and right sides, you could plug the numpad into either side depending on your preference.

Magnets could be used to hold the numpad flush against the board for a clean, stable attachment. Some keyboards already use magnetic side-attachments, but fully integrated magnetic connectors tend to add a lot of production complexity and cost. A simpler approach — magnets for physical attachment plus a short USB cable running to the top of the board — might strike the perfect balance.

And for users who want a standalone numpad, a longer cable would work just as well.

idk why we would make an 80hev2

#

the 60he v2 is so the 60he can pull up to the 80he in terms of specs

I see, then how about the 2HE V2? the 1000Hz polling rate is a bit low?

#

I personally hoping for 2HE V2 to be the next thing.

i so damn wish we would do a 2hev2.... it would be my dream upgrade if i could wish for a next project

Same, and I hope the idea above will be taken into consideration.... Just imagine how sick it will be. with maybe different variation of numpads, incredibly modular

although i dont want it for 8khz as im very aware of how over valued 8khz is over a well working 1khz polling

#

more wishing wed get mounting similar to the 60hev2 or 80he and stab/switch improvements

#

although id have to say i wouldnt want the numpad to be split. id actually want a macropad ontop of the normal fullsize

the benefit of a macropad being id hope we make it 5heigh and 4 wide but all 1u keys

(not to mention i dislike the idea of 2 cables for a fullsize or some overcomplicated and less than rock solid functional detachable numpad)

#

id also hope we do a daughterboard like 80he for usb-c or reuse the existing connector the 2he already uses

#

but thats all just my own dream for a v2 of my beloved fullsize

I like the idea of switch stability improvements — that feels like a natural part of any next-gen upgrade.
I’ve also experienced the inconvenience of having a fixed numpad, and I know some people prefer it on the left side. That’s why I’m so interested in the concept of a detachable numpad.

Personally, I think a short 90-degree cable would be ideal — just long enough to link the two ‘islands.’ Alternatively, placing the connector on the sides of both halves could work too. My only concern is durability: a direct side-mounted connector might break more easily, and aesthetically it could look odd if a male connector sticks out on one side when the numpad is mounted on the other.

The cable should feel something like this but much shorter. USB -C on both sides to connect the two. I can't find the exact image of it so this is an example. With a short/just long enough caple on top, it might not feel messy or even visible when connected.

User with 60HE or other keyboard could also use a longer/different cable to connect to PC directly similar to the current UWU

But if the goal is to have it perfect or nothing, then it's justified to dislike that 2 cable idea. However perfect might not be cheap, which could slice out a good chunk of potential buyers
