#I'd love a Split Keyboard from Wooting

Every now and then I have the itch to switch to a split keyboard. I'm actively using Wooting 60he and despite its size, all my fingers are trying to reach far and beyond while my thumb only uses space key. My pinky is the weakest finger yet it has to reach all the outer keys.

This conventional layout is just too outdated. I understand the hesitancy because when you start using a different, smaller layout then it becomes hard to switch back and forth between your regular keyboard. That's the only downside to it.

Maybe Wooting can help people realize split keyboard's power and produce its own so that we can buy one with no questions asked.

Would love to hear from Wooting about this, thanks!

That's why they ask for market research

This topic is a great way for people to express their need. Other than that split keyboards are an obvious part of the keyboard world and I wouldn't be able to / nor want to provide more than what they already know.

I'd understand their request of market research for a knob on the keyboard, which doesn't have an obvious demand metric at first glance.

It's up to them to decide if it will succeed, as for me I just had to reiterate the idea since it's very desirable for me.
Besides the strength they have is to promote the idea to consumers who have zero knowledge about split keyboards, considering they have a big fan base. I don't see a single advantage 60% has over more compact ergonomic layouts except getting used to it.

Henlo, just logged in back to the wooting discord for this exact comment!

the only propositions we got: custom made and i don't feel like putting so much time to do it myself. The sunder keyboards looks pretty, but they are wired, often out of stock, expensive without switches. The falcata from rog would be the absolute doppest, but the price is insane.

Just looked into Falcata, it has default layout, only difference is that it's split. I'm talking more about like a Corne keyboard. Of course there would be very differing opinions when it comes to finding out the best possible layout, but I would be supporting the idea of "functionality to the fullest" which means less finger extension where possible and use thumb more instead of pinky.

You're right

If I was diehard enough, I’d saw a board in half as a joke. But fr I’d buy a legit split wooting board in an instant. Maybe even several.

I already bought a numpad havo

Wooting numpad has been a suggestion for so long it’s a meme at this point. Soon™

Also I like the Falcata from Asus but they made a safe bet by changing nothing in the layout. The fact that it's the first magnetic split keyboard is attractive though.

Being split merely is not enough for it to be sufficiently ergonomic.

But i wouldnt go back to it. Not even if wooting were to sell a HE pad

For me the biggest interest is typing fast and comfortably. When I'm using num keys for symbols or numbers it always slows everything down. Number 6 is so far to my pointing finger that it takes almost a second to press. There's no flow state when working with these layouts, and people don't realize it mostly because no one's telling them.

Yep i understand. I think i would follow you 100% on ergo if they were wireless

Only Wooting can pull off accommodating these efficient layouts to gaming as well.

Did you try any ortholinear or staggered?

Keychron seems to release all sort of HE keyboard
The latest one is the pad we talked about.
Seeing how they already have a pretty split, it might only be a question of time before they put HE switches in it.
Now for ergonomics, im not sure they ll implement any different layout
