It’s not a “normal” issue but frequently happens in the community, especially from updating the firmware. Mainly because people will be updating their board then unplug it, power off, close application in task manager, or other things. If you’re experiencing issues with keyboard not working randomly, make sure you don’t have other peripheral applications trying to hijack control (a lot of the big “box store” peripherals tend to use software that does that). Also, make sure you have good connection to your pc and aren’t using a hub or usb switcher. Certain ones work, but a lot don’t. Lastly, some pc’s just cause issues. Something would always go wrong with my old 14900k build each week, whether it was data corruption, some conflict with windows, random bios and driver issues, etc. Switching to peripherals that didn’t need software suite downloaded like wooting being able to use a browser for wootility allowed me to remove that piece of the puzzle for potential issues.
Saving profiles is definitely a wise choice because anything can happen when it comes to tech. Better to be prepared. But if your keyboard is being corrupted often, it wouldn’t hurt to reach out to official support to seek assistance.
So I work in technical, and cases of a bad flash chip are extremely rare I think I’ve only had 2 cases total in over a year.
Most of the time it is either:
- Bad firmware, possibly when uploading the firmware to the keyboard, or some event messes with the memory sudden power loss during upload or incomplet firmware restore etc
- Loading an old profile from Wootabase 4+ years old, but this is also rare—I don’t think I’ve had any cases of this for over a year.
I recommend duplicating the profiles you wish to keep just incase -i do the same and keep these in the app version and browser version (note for browser this will be wiped i you clear cookies)
