Basically just disables any other key from being pressed. Tried new profile, tried reconnecting and disconnecting the keyboard no dice.

Used two different pcs (not sure why but did anyways) no dice there ethier.

Plugged in a shitty logitech keyboard and works fine, just with the wooting.

Here are my settings so far, FN key is not bound to L-ALT.

You said the RGB turns green when you press it, is the Fn Layer 1 set to be green?

solar steppe
#

This might sound real stupid. How do I check that? Fairly new to the wooting software.

fickle tundra
#

Click the layer on the left side shown in the screenshot

solar steppe
#

Does this do xphome?

#

Sure, done. Well, except discord.

#

Yep, no dice unfortunately.

fickle tundra
# solar steppe

So the green might just be an effect you have when pressing a key? Since the Fn Layer has the same RGB as your normal layer

solar steppe
#

Mmmmaybe? I am not sure. I dont recall making it as such. It just kinda was after I changed the RBG to blue/bright blue colors.

#

Maybe? As I plug in a shit keyboard to test right now, it works just fine. Only when I plug in the wooting which feels like it might not be?

fickle tundra
solar steppe
#

It registers it just fine there. Holding L-ALT any button will register in there yes.

fickle tundra
#

Can you change the RGB on your Fn layer in any way so you can tell if it activates or not when pressing the L-Alt key?

solar steppe
#

100%..... but... where do I do that exactly?

fickle tundra
#

It's enough to just color one key different

solar steppe
#

Anything specifically I need to change in here?

fickle tundra
#

Oh you'd need to add a layer

#

Andrew is here to say something tho

solar steppe
#

Sounds like a final boss.

humble fiber
#

Can you attempt to use this site: https://config.qmk.fm/#/test
and press the Alt key by itself, then a combination, to see if the site detects the switch

solar steppe
#

100% give me one moment

humble fiber
#

Also, just a heads-up, I’ve had two recent tickets with similar issues with the Alt key. I suspect that software may be playing a part—not sure why it only affects Wooting in your case.

but may be related

solar steppe
#

Alright I am here;

Where to now

humble fiber
solar steppe
#

Works just fine.

#

So, as a template to try.

I launched Path of exile, button remapped to ALT R and ALT F, it wont register.

I sat overwatch crouch to ALT, itll cancel out anything even reload buttons when holding alt. I have to release L-ALT first to reload.

#

Theres definitely something amidst here.

humble fiber
#

So normally if the keycode/scan code is detected when switches are pressed individually, that indicates that the keyboard is working fine and software tends to be the cause in most cases

but as this is isolated to the Wooting I think best to remove and force a clean install of the keyboard drivers

https://help.wooting.io/article/173-how-to-flush-all-dead-registry-entries
can you attempt this guide to remove the keyboard drivers and any leftover registry files and perform a restart (not a shutdown) for the changes to take effect

#

Just saw the mention that this happens in-game

I really suspect this may be the result of an overlay in this case

solar steppe
#

Doing it straight away.

#

Ok done.

#

We had an issue... I cannot delete the registry....

humble fiber
#

i take it a warning apears ?

solar steppe
#

Basically in short, tells me to fuck off. I cannot delete them.

humble fiber
#

Yea, if the drivers are currently being used, I tend to say that in that case the only way to remove them is by running in Safe Mode

Also tends to happen when software may be trying to interact with the keyboard drivers to read the keyboard inputs (possibly related)

quick questions
Do you have any macro or overlay software running? For example:

Macro:
Razer Synapse, AHK, Wootomation, Razer Synapse (listed twice to emphasize how often this causes issues)

Overlay:
Steam, Discord, NVIDIA, Overwolf

solar steppe
#

No razer synapse, I turn that shit off asap.

No other softwares.

#

I just did, nothing.

humble fiber
#

In this case, if they reconnect the keyboard, it will reinstall the drivers, and with the remaining registry key, it won’t install a new one but instead use the same registery file. So if this is the cause of the problem it wont resolve the problem

#

Also, it is not entirely confirmed if the registry file is the cause, but the fact it can't be uninstalled is not normal

solar steppe
#

Isnt it a bit odd that it does it on two completely seperate pcs?

#

I can try it on a laptop next to me aswell, a third to see if it still does

humble fiber
#

While odd, it can happen. For instance, in one case they had a Razer product and its software was installed on two computers, which caused similar issues. It was only ruled out when Razer was uninstalled and the keyboard drivers reinstalled.

(Razer attempts to read the "HID keyboard device" driver for its macros to work and causes weird issues, as they should not be doing that)

solar steppe
#

mm

humble fiber
#

i would recommend to lunch the system into "safe mode" this will disable all none windows software then you can attempt to replicate the problem and see if it is fixed or not

solar steppe
#

hm.

#

so delete all the regedit stuff yeah? thats what were aiming to do

fickle tundra
humble fiber
#

best to only delete the listed registry files

Pretty much at this stage of elimination as these issues can be hard to narrow down. I am 80% sure it is software-related in some way, as most cases are but finding out what software is the hard part.

So the safe mode test can help, as no software except Windows will be running, and you can check if there is any problem (you also have permission to delete the registry file as well).

If safe mode shows results to narrow it down, you can try to narrow it down further by disabling software that launches on startup, and if it only happens in certain games, you can check for software that may try to interact with the game.

solar steppe
#

Theyre no longer there.

#

but, problem still unfortunately persists. aw shucks

humble fiber
#

in safe mode or after the reinstall of drivers?

solar steppe
#

Both

humble fiber
#

well that is strange..

fickle tundra
#

Does R-Alt work fine?

solar steppe
#

Checking

#

Wait a fucking minute. Everything works except R now

fickle tundra
#

L-Alt works now?

solar steppe
#

I can move with WASD and hold alt simultaniously now yes, but I cannot use R

#

Specifically R, let me test this in Poe / wow to make sure.

fickle tundra
#

R alone or with Alt?

solar steppe
#

L-ALT / R-ALT both work with WASD rn.

But I cannot use the button R

humble fiber
#

best to check the analog monitor (just incase the calibration went wrong)

fickle tundra
#

Alt+R is a hotkey used by Nvidia BTW

solar steppe
#

Does work there, but not in games...

#

I excited nvidias panel @fickle tundra and it still wont work. Is it a bind that still operates even when fully closed?

#

I closed the program, entirely.

#

Still wont budge.

fickle tundra
#

If their overlay is enabled it could if the process is still running

solar steppe
#

Killed the process in apps, lets see again.

#

Ok, so weve got all of it working.

humble fiber
#

is my list of software atleast when i hear back on the cause

solar steppe
#

Except, R. with both L alt and R alt.

#

I do use AMD; but ive killed the process, ive killed nvidia aswell. no dice.

fickle tundra
#

It's the process NVSPHELPER64.exe that uses the hotkey Alt+R, I can't say if it's safe to kill it tho. The best is instead to just disable the overlay the right way

solar steppe
fickle tundra
# solar steppe

Yep, that will free up Alt+R. At least from Nvidia using it

humble fiber
#

i need to sleep as it is 5:30am so best of luck mate.

solar steppe
#

Hm..

#

Yeah.. apart from AMD adrenaline.. I am puzzled. Theres nothing there ethier.

fickle tundra
#

So disabling the Nvidia overlay didn't help?

solar steppe
#

It did not no, still wont work with ALT + R

fickle tundra
#

Doesn't make sense it would work with another keyboard tho

solar steppe
#

Right?

solar steppe
#

I fixed it!

#

@humble fiber @fickle tundra

Okay, so this might help future people so keep this in mind. Holy shit the backround maths I had to do to figure this out.

I was browsing issues on this problem and found out that someone have had a similar issue. I noticed something interesting with that thread.

They were using logitech products; but one thing in common. We had adrenaline AMD in our taskmngr, but not showing in programs or installed due to a conflict with the newest W11 update and AMD together.

Basically AMD and w11 are in kahooots and its bugged out.

I had to remove a few things but namely, AMD Adrenaline was installed even though it wasnt showing for me in the list.

Alt R and Alt Z are both keybinds used for performance mode and energy saver mode, so they were being activated and turned off consistently without my knowledge and overriding the keybinds so I couldnt use them in games, but they would register in the tests.

Removed adrenaline, and it now works perfectly. Not a Wooting related issue, but perhaps you can help the other folks having this problem.

Fix is removing AMD Adrenaline from ur PC entirely. @humble fiber

As for why the logitech keyboard worked and not the wooting is beyond me. glitchy stuff I presume.

humble fiber
#

Wooting keyboard tend to have more drivers 10-11 while most may have 3

This is to support all the features (keyboard, mouse, gamepad, wootility, analog SDK , media, etc) so might be related but would need to disable these drivers to check

But all around looks solved SwitchyConfetti

solar steppe
#

We sure did. remember the amd adrenaline removal and it should be fine if its ALT Z or ALT R
