i already tried factory reset, restoring the device, swapping out the switches etc
nothing seems to help
You have to contact Wooting about this issue. https://wooting.io/support
Keep in mind that it can take several business days for them to respond to your ticket.
@granite crown heya
sent an email thought i would post this video here or if you have any questions
Wassup,
yeah I just saw the email. Ik what a multiplexer does but was just wondering what could be the cause to the issue.
Honestly it could be broken because it feels like its the most likely out of all the possible reasons. Maybe also transistor failure? I feel like it couldn't be heat, voltage spikes and definitely not old.
Also, what do you guys do with bad components like this? Do you fix it and use it or? Just curious
so currently we don't rework the PCBs so this would go on a pile until later (more focused on setting up a refurbishment for normal returns atm)
but to fix this would require replacing the component outright within the past there was a similar case with a broken mux from corrosion if interested i will link below was resolved by replacing it

Understandable, but technically speaking it would basically be as good as new after the component replacement?
Asking since it's not like it's an old PCB it's relatively new and don't see why it couldn't be reused
theoretical yes but as this is covered under warranty i would advise against soldering
Oh no of course I'm not planning on any funny business hahaha, I'm just asking cause curious
@clear birch what if my insert key started working properly again
they both work completely fine again
i did nothing just realised today it works as intended
I would keep using it for a while; it may just be temporary, and it could happen again
I still think the MUX is the cause, but these types of cases, when the problem happens inconsistently, are always the weirdest as the trigger may be from temperature, moisture, or somthing wrong with the Die (hard to say)(
i just realised it got even worse nevermind, the key works normally and doesnt trigger on backspace anymore but it triggers on other random keys, for example when i press c or space it triggers insert
welll that is strange (that would be on a different mux)
just to check is this with the RGB effect "RT-Display" enabled?
yes
it happened with rt display enabled
but now as im testing its happening less
it still happens just not as often
i think it might be from the pressure of clicking the keys?
not from clicking a specific key but pressure the the keyboard
i might be wrong though because it also happens sometimes when i just lightly tap a key
best to try the analog monitor
https://analog-monitor.wootility.io/
and see what is happening as this may not be a mux issue but a strange scanning problem (hard to say) but if it is a mux the line should perfectly overlap with anouther key
for example with space
or with c
it happens with every key pretty much
not just certain keys
but it happens a lot more when i press the key down fully instead of halfway
ok ....
what,.,...
Very strange,,.,
i mean i'm basically unaffected if i just unbind the insert key but yes strange
Normally, I would ask to perform a keyboard restore to reflash the firmware, but that was already done in the initial troubleshooting
I need to forward this to the software/firmware team as this behavior is not normal
you think it's a software problem?
also, yes i think i was right about the pressure part, when i lift the keyboard up and down (move it around physically) the insert button lights up aswell
makes me think it's a physical problem
like something is broken
When firmware goes bad it can cause strange issues, so the request for a restore is to test for that
In this case, it might be a memory issue where scanning data is cached, but this is really hard to say with certainty as I don't know enough about that subject
hmmm
if interested you can you give the PCB a look over for anything out of the ordinary but this may be Very hard to see
i was gonna ask if i should disassemble and check
do you expect the issue to be on the PCB or not with this info
These symptoms do seem like something is wrong with the PCB, though I can't say for sure what is broken too many strange behaviors
Can you also give the "Insert" Hall sensors/capacitor a close-up as well for anything strange
I will do so, but would you mind if i waited for the new PCB to arrive so I don't have to open it up twice?
incase something is broken that is
Sure, no problem. This is all optional, just out of curiosity if you wanted to find out more
( can kind of get a bit cought up in strange cases sorry)
Yeah I am curious myself this is interesting to me aswell haha, but just don't wanna risk breaking anything by opening it up an extra time yk!
I'll let you know when I open it up
Hi, sorry for jumping on this thread but I think I had a similar problem, and having the board replaced fixed it, linked my thread below:

Yoo @clear birch , I have just finished replacing the PCB
My problem is fixed :D! However, when i was replacing the PCB i didn't see any issues with it. I paid attention to the things you said and I also tried comparing it to the new one. I wasn't able to spot anything
Glad to hear, and yeah, this can sometimes hard to see any issues with MUX issues, but in this case it's very strange—the later symptoms seem to be the result of some odd issue with the MCU (maybe), hard to say
I’ll try to find your ticket to provide the return instructions 🙂
@clear birch hello again, could I ask you something about the return
sure
So I am sending it back a bit late yes sorry for that, I was on vacation, but I got another email from you guys with the instructions and an attached label, it says i should after putting the label on the package drop it off at a ups location, but the nearest one is 2 hours away, can I do it differently maybe? sorry I haven't sent stuff by ups before
ahhh that would be an issue
not sure if this is available in your area but the return label also covers the cost for pickup services so you could attempt to schedule a parcel pickup
(don't remember the country but you can google "UPS Parcel collections <county>" and it should be the first UPS result)
alright yes that's a thing here
