Have you ever considered making a Wooting ergo split keyboard?

I wanted to throw an idea out there that I think could benefit a small(?) part of the community. For those of us who are full-time software developers or just spend most of our work time typing.

I realize this is a bit of a niche request, but I believe there’s actually a pretty significant audience out there. Many in the dev community (or anyone who types a lot for work) could appreciate the ergonomic benefits of a split layout. I believe making an ergo split keyboard paired with wooting's software and analog input would be a great way to bring more people in, without having to make a sacrifice, whether it's form-factor, features or space.

Why an ergo split?

  • Ergonomics: Reduced strain for long typing sessions (my wrists and shoulders would thank you).
  • Single keyboard solution: I’d love to have just one keyboard on my desk, instead of switching between a “work” keyboard for comfort and productivity and a “gaming” keyboard for sweating and losing.
  • Growing market: There are more and more split/ergonomic boards out there, but almost none feature hall-effect switches, and especially not with wooting's software capabilities.
I also totally understand that the ergo keyboard world is a whole new scene, with lots of different layouts and preferences. That definitely makes it tough to create something that works for everyone. But maybe there’s a middle ground or a layout that covers the most common needs.

I don't expect it to become a reality anytime soon especially with the 60HEv2 in development but I was curious to know whether it would be something the Wooting Team would be willing to commit for. Even in 5+ years I would love to wait and see a product like that.

The closest product I recently found is the Asus ROG Falcata, but the 75% layout, the gamerish look (and it's not wooting 🫣) are a bit of a turn off.

Making it from scratch is quite the hurdle as I have no experience in actually making my own keyboard, and dealing with making the software as well 🫠.

I am more than willing to commit to it, if a split keyboard were to never feature on Wooting's roadmap.

It is a very niche product indeed

It would be interesting to do a market analysis on the subject, I am not sure I can find much by myself 🥲
